MissionThe mission of Maryland Lyric Opera is to revive the vocal artistry of the past, from the age when the individuality and the liberty of expression of the singer were of primary importance. ExplanationCompetition applications were thoroughly reviewed by our preliminary judges panel. The applications included three audio recordings, resume, headshot, and biographical information. Judges for the preliminary round selected semifinalists based on the applicants' recordings. The semifinalists sang live in front of the panel of guest judges who made decisions without input from MDLO personnel. Singers were judged based upon vocal abilities including language, timbre, style, individualism, artistry in general, and ability to make a major career as an opera singer.
