Foreign agents (FARA)

Registrations under the Foreign Agents Registration Act, as the Justice Department publishes them: the firms and people who register as agents of foreign governments, parties and other principals (registrants), the foreign principals each one represents, and the individuals named on short-form registrations. Each registrant links to its filings at fara.gov.

7,103 registrants (537 active), 17,784 foreign principal registrations (826 active, from 151 countries and locations) and 44,742 short-form registrants (2,557 active), registrations since 1942. 609 short-form registrants are matched to people on this site and 439 registrants to nonprofits or federal lobbying registrants.

What this covers, and what it doesn't

• The bulk files list registrations, not the activity reports: who registered, for whom, and when. Activity, money and the documents themselves are on fara.gov ↗.
• Names, addresses and countries are as the registrants filed them. A registrant terminated and re-registered keeps separate registration numbers.
• Links to people on this site require the same full name with a middle name or initial, held by exactly one person page, in one of that person’s states. Links to nonprofits require the same name and state; to lobbying registrants, the same name.
