Open Payments: drug and device money to doctors
Drug and medical device makers must report to Medicare every payment and transfer of value they make to physicians, physician assistants, nurse practitioners and teaching hospitals: meals, travel, speaking and consulting fees, royalties, research funding, and ownership stakes. CMS publishes the records; this is the full detail for program years 2019 on, with one page per recipient and per company, and the recipients matched to the people on this site.
1,780,412 recipients (8,802 teaching hospitals) and 2,960 paying companies. 10,878 recipients are matched to person pages and 3,666 hospitals and companies to nonprofits or business registrations.

What this covers, and what it doesn't
- What the companies reported: the recipient as they identified them, the amount, date, form and nature of the payment, and the first product named. Companies can report up to five products per record; the others, travel destinations, third-party and dispute flags and the free-text context are not loaded.
- Research records name the covered recipient (often a hospital or an institution) and up to five principal investigators; the first investigator is kept.
- Recipients are matched to person pages by full name with a middle name or initial, held by one person page, in one of that person’s states. Hospitals and companies are matched to nonprofits and business registrations by name and state.
- Program years 2013 to 2018 are in CMS’s archive and not loaded.
