MissionFounded in 1904 and comprised of over 400 members, CATA is the oldest and largest new-car dealership association in the nation. CATA's purpose is to engage in activities for the betterment of Chicagoland Auto Dealers. This includes serving as a clearinghouse of information for its member dealers. However, its main event is the Chicago Auto show, which is held annually.MissionDesc

DescFOR MORE THAN A CENTURY, THE CHICAGO AUTOMOBILE TRADE ASSOCIATION (CATA) HAS STOOD FOR HIGH PRINCIPLES OF BUSINESS. ITS BASIC TENETS REMAIN AS STEADFAST TODAY AS THEY WERE A HUNDRED YEARS AGO: PROMOTING HONESTY AND DEPENDABILITY IN BUSINESS OPERATIONS; EMPLOYING TRUTH AND ACCURACY IN DEALER ADVERTISING; STANDING BY GUARANTEES; IMPROVING BUSINESS METHODS AND ETHICS AND KEEPING COMPETITION FAIR SO THAT DEALERS AND THE PUBLIC ARE WELL-SERVED; AND REFRAINING FROM PRACTICES DETRIMENTAL TO THE INDUSTRY OR CONTRARY TO THE PUBLIC INTEREST. CURRENTLY, CATA DEALERSHIPS EMPLOY MORE THAN 50,000 PEOPLE IN CHICAGOLAND. OVER THE PAST CENTURY, THESE LOCALLY BASED SMALL BUSINESSES HAVE PROVIDED GOOD PAYING JOBS FOR THEIR EMPLOYEES, WHO, IN TURN, CONTRIBUTE TO THEIR COMMUNITIES. THE CATA'S COMMITMENT TO EXCELLENCE IN AUTOMOTIVE RETAILING REMAINS ITS CORE VALUE AND WILL REMAIN SO THROUGH THE NEXT CENTURY. FIRST STAGED IN 1901, THE CHICAGO AUTO SHOW IS THE LARGEST AUTO SHOW IN NORTH AMERICA AND HAS BEEN HELD MORE TIMES THAN ANY OTHER AUTO EXPOSITION ON THE CONTINENT. 2008 MARKED THE 100TH EDITION OF THE SHOW. SINCE 1935, CATA HAS HAD THE HONOR OF PRESENTING THE CHICAGO AUTO SHOW. OVER THE YEARS IT HAS GROWN WITH THE CITY MOVING FROM THE COLISEUM TO THE INTERNATIONAL AMPHITHEATER TO THE ORIGINAL MCCORMICK PLACE AND THEN TO THE CURRENT MCCORMICK PLACE. TODAY, THE SHOW OCCUPIES TWO EXHIBITION HALLS WITH NEARLY 1.3 MILLION SQUARE FEET OF EXHIBITION SPACE. THE CHICAGO AUTO SHOW PROMOTES THE AUTO INDUSTRY AND THE CHICAGOLAND NEW CAR DEALERS.Desc

ExplanationThe Association is exempt from income taxes under Section 501(c)(6) of the Internal Revenue Code, and accordingly, no provision for income taxes has been provided in the financial statements. The Association follows guidance issued by the FASB with respect to accounting for uncertainty in income taxes. A tax position is recognized as a benefit only if it is more likely than not that the tax position would be sustained in a tax examination, with a tax examination being presumed to occur. The amount recognized is the largest amount of tax benefit that is greater than 50% likely of being realized on examination. For tax positions not meeting the more likely than not test, no tax benefit is recorded. The Association recognizes interest and penalties related to unrecognized tax benefits in interest expense and income tax expenses, respectively. The Association has no amounts accrued for interest or penalties as of June 30, 2020 and 2019. Due to its status as a Section 501(c)(6) entity, the Association is not subject to U.S. federal income tax or state income tax. The Association is no longer subject to examination by U.S. federal taxing authorities for years before 2014 and for all state income taxes through 2015. The Association does not expect the total amount of unrecognized tax benefits to significantly change in the next 12 months.ExplanationTxt
