Schedule D, Part V, Line 4 Intended uses of endowment fundsTHE COLLEGE MANAGES AND INVESTS THE ENDOWMENT TO PROVIDE CURRENT AND FUTURE SUPPORT FOR THE OPERATIONS OF THE COLLEGE. EXAMPLES OF SPECIFIC PURPOSES INCLUDE SCHOLARSHIPS FOR STUDENTS, FACILITIES UPKEEP, RESEARCH, FACULTY COMPENSATION AND OTHER ACADEMIC AND STUDENT OPERATIONS.
Schedule D, Part X, Line 2 FIN 48 (ASC 740) footnoteWilliams College is exempt from federal and state income taxes to the extent provided by section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code and equivalent state provisions, except with regard to unrelated business income which is taxable at corporate income tax rates, and provisions of the 2017 Tax Cuts and Jobs Act (the "Act"). The Act impacts the College in several ways, including excise taxes on compensation and net investment income, changes to the net operating loss rules, repeal of the certain minimum tax (AMT), and the computation of UBTI separately for each unrelated trade or business. Further, the Act established a flat 21% US federal corporate tax rate and federal corporate unrelated business income tax rate. The College has made provisions for a deferred tax liability from net unrealized gains on qualifying assets and estimated at the 1.4% tax rate of $10.3 million and $6.7 million as of June 30, 2025 and 2024, respectively. Accruals for the current portion of the excise and compensation tax of $3 million and $1 million were also included for the years ending June 30, 2025 and 2024, respectively. The deferred tax liability and current accrual are included in other liabilities in the consolidated statements of financial position. The College believes it has taken no significant uncertain tax positions.
