Explanation	Upward Scholars provides a range of cash and non-cash student assistance programs designed to reduce financial barriers to education and support student persistence, academic achievement, workforce readiness, and basic needs stability. Assistance may include textbook and course material support, transportation assistance, food gift cards, scholarships, emergency financial assistance, educational stipends, graduation recognition support, licensing and certification fees, professional development support, and reimbursements or direct vendor payments for required educational expenses. Recipients must be current enrolled Upward Scholars students who complete the program application, meet program eligibility requirements, and be in good standing. Certain programs have additional eligibility criteria based on academic performance, field of study, financial need, educational milestones, or participation in specialized programs such as TeacherUp or BusinessUp. Emergency assistance recipients must complete a separate request process documenting the financial hardship or emergency impacting their ability to continue their education. Upward Scholars monitors assistance programs through application review, verification of enrollment and academic participation, review of supporting documentation, vendor invoices and receipts, confirmation of educational milestones or program participation, and staff review of financial need. Certain programs utilize internal priority criteria systems to equitably allocate limited resources to students with the highest level of need.
