Mission DescriptionThe mission of the Ronald Reagan Presidential Foundation is to promote Ronald Reagan's legacy and the principles he championed, through educational programming, community outreach, public speeches and debates and exhibitry, which not only teach visitors about our nation's 40th President and the policies he created while in office, but to also show the importance and the impact of these policies and how they continue to affect the guiding principles that govern us today. Through our fundraising efforts, donors help the Foundation to continue his work and to shape the leaders of tomorrow. Almost 345,000 visitors came up to the Library's hilltop, of which over 58,000 were school children.MissionDescription

Description[Presidential Learning Center]> A place where school children are inspired to learn about this country's great legacy of presidential leadership and the importance character plays in our democracy.> Air Force One Discovery Center: Over 22,000 5th through 8th grade students went through the Library's interactive and immersive educational facility known as the Air Force One Discovery Center. During this experience, students participate in role-playing exercises based upon the 1983 United States rescue mission of American students in Grenada to learn how government works and how decisions are made. Students take on the roles of important government figures like the Secretary of Defense, White House press correspondents, Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, and even the President of the United States while participating in different modules including the White House Press Room, the White House Oval Office and the U.S.S. Ronald Reagan Command Decision Center. At the end of their role playing exercises the students are treated to a "ride" on an actual Air Force One Simulator. New high school curriculum was also started this fiscal year, to be rolled out in fiscal year 2011.> Ronald Reagan Presidential Library Scholars: 160 Ventura County high school students from 25 different school comprised 2010's class of Reagan Library Scholars. $60,250 in college scholarships was awarded. > California Curriculum: The Reagan Foundation's Walter and Leonore Annenberg Presidential Learning Center department began to roll out high school curriculum based on California standards to engage students in citizenship, the presidency, and the United States Government. The first unit, "Civics and Citizenship" invites students to explore the rights and the responsibilities of citizens, and encourages students to become active, informed and engaged citizens. Two other curriculum units will roll out in the following fiscal year. > National Leadership Youth Committee: A National Youth Leadership Committee was formed to support President Reagan's Centennial celebration to ensure that President Reagan's torch of freedom is carried on for current and future generations. Representing the next generation of our nation's leaders, these 40 members aged 18-25 assist with the Reagan Centennial planning of events. Each of these young athletes, entertainers and student leaders is inspired in a personal way by President Reagan's vision of freedom and the example of his leadership. Together they have earned 18 gold medals, 11 NCAA All-American selections, 5 NCAA championships, two certified Platinum records, and numerous other awards.> Educator Night and Teacher Workshops: Multiple teacher "open houses" and curriculum workshops were offered to teachers from around the country to showcase the educational offerings of The Reagan Library.Description

Description[The Museum]The story of Ronald and Nancy Reagan and our 40th President's enduring legacyTemporary Exhibits> An American Christmas (November 18, 2009 - January 2, 2010): In this new exhibit, 24 trees were decorated to celebrate the defining moments of America's road to greatness, from the Revolutionary Era to today. Each tree reflects the life and times of American society and culture during each decade between 1700 and 2010, thus tracing the evolution of America. Through the use of lights, ornaments and decorations, each tree becomes its own piece of magnificent art. Also on display will be a collection of beautiful hand-crafted Menorahs that were given to President Reagan while in the White House.> Born to be Wild: Vintage and Celebrity Motorcycles (July 9, 2010 - November 9, 2010): This fun exhibit chronicled the history and rich tradition of motorcycle culture from around the world. This exhibit included the display of dozens of iconic movie and celebrity motorcycles as well as rare and vintage motorcycles dating back to 1899. Fun, lighthearted motorcycles rounded out the exhibit, including a motorcycle and adjoining side-car from the Jelly Belly Candy Company. > The White House in Miniature (March 15, 2010 - April 15, 2011): The Ronald Reagan Presidential Library opened a special exhibit featuring the White House Miniature, an authentic recreation of the White House measuring 50 feet long and 18 feet wide: a one-foot-to-one-inch scale. Taking over 600,000 hours of labor to create, the miniature is an amazing replica, showing visitors an intimate look into the White House - from the Lincoln bedroom to the Oval Office to tiny, working televisions to hand-carved chairs, tables and crystal chandeliers. Created by the Zweifel family, and first exhibited in 1979, the Miniature White House has been seen by over 42 million Americans.Community Events> Presidents' Day, July 4th and, Veteran's Day: The Library continued its tradition of hosting the local community to three days of music, Presidential look-alikes, children's activities and great food. These annual outreach events have become a staple for the community.> Ronald Reagan's Birthday Celebration: To honor President Reagan, President George W. Bush designated United States Marine Corps Base Camp Pendleton to place a wreath on President Reagan's gravesite on his behalf on every February 6th. The ceremony includes a 21-gun salute. Senator Elizabeth Dole was the program's keynote speaker.Description
