PART III LINE 4Housing:
HRDC Housing programs work to ensure that every member of
our community can afford to have a place to call home,
whether it is a rental or a first-time homeownership.
Section 8 Program - (Expenses $165,096, grants $0)(Revenues $165,282)
The Section 8 Rental Assistance Program is administered
locally by HRDC for the Montana Department of Commerce.
Section 8 Rental Assistance provides access to safe,
adequate, affordable housing of their own choosing to
families and individuals who manage their households with
very limited incomes. Eligible families must complete
applications and then be placed on a waiting list for
assistance, the current wait is approximately 1 to 2 years
and contains 405 households. Participating families receive
a rental subsidy in a home of their choosing, assuming it
meets housing quality standards. The rental subsidy is the
equivalent of the difference in their rent versus 30% of
their income. During 2010, 429 households were provided
with rental subsidies in order to obtain and maintain affordable housing.

1220 individuals have been assisted both financially and strategically
with a plan to return to self-sufficiency. 430 households
were assisted in preventing homelessness and 109 households were
assisted in securing and obtaining housing who were
experiencing homelessness. Of those households,11 were provided

household income must be at or below 80% of the area median income.
The Rehabiliation Program also offers a self-help section, allowing
work to be performed by the household, friends, neighbors, and/or
service groups, lowering the cost and providing home repair skills
to the homeowner. HRDC partners with the Northern Rocky Mountain
RC&D to add the self-help requirements for each household.
This is one of three Rural Housing Services, self-help, home
