| Description | During 2011, The Advisory Board made the final payment to DISD on its outstanding commitment for the construction of the new school and continued to fund certain newly identified capital needs for the school. The Advisory Board continued to monitor and collect outstanding pledge payments from the capital campaign that was concluded in early 2008. Pledge collections are expected to continue through 2013. | Description | The Advisory Board provided and administered grants to Booker T. Washington High School for the Performing and Visual Arts, its students and its faculty. Grants provided funds for college scholarships, faculty professional development, tuition to programs and summer intensives at college preparatory venues, private lessons, travel assistance for students to visit universities and to participate in competitions, musical instruments, dance clothing, school supplies, laptop computers and software.The Advisory Board facilitated and/or funded the third year of a collaborative program between the Dallas Theater Center and the school's Theater Department; the first year of a formal collaborative program between the Dallas Museum of Art and the school's Visual Arts Department; a guest artist residency and series of Master Classes with the professional company complexions contemporary ballet. In addition, the Advisory Board provided assistance and funding to the school to launch a formal accreditation process, rolled out the pilot season of the Metropolitan Opera's METLive in HD Series simulcast in the school's Montgomery Arts Theater, and provided financial support for the school's mentoring program. | Description |

| Explanation | Student Grants: Applicants seeking student enrichment funds form the Organization complete a Master Applicant Profile Statement (MAPS) which is designed to standardize and simplify the process for every student enrichment fund administered by the Organization. Students are responsible for updating the MAPS form with any changes occurring after its initial completion (e.g. change of address, current transcript, etc.). MAPS is then supplemented with an application directly to the specific-use fund that is available for the type of project proposed. Supporting documents such as reference letters, proof of financial need and the applicant's personal statement are included in the application. A committee composed of Organization members and, when applicable the donor(s) who initiated the fund, reviews each applicant file, comparing the application to the guidelines of the fund. The committee discusses the qualifications of each applicant and decides on the recipient(s) of the award(s). Every grant requires a proof of the expenditure and a follow-up report to the Organization and donors from the recipient.Faculty Grants: The Organizations Faculty Enrichment Committee (FEC), with guidance from the school principal, establishes a timeline for the receipt, review and awarding of grants. Faculty grant applications are made available to faculty members through the school principal's office, the Organizations office and online. Upon receipt of completed applications, copies are provided to all committee members and to the principal for review and distribution to the Campus Leadership Team (department chairs and applicable administrators). The principal and the Campus Leadership Team meet separately to evaluate and prioritize the applications. The results of this review are forwarded to the FEC for consideration during the final evaluation process by the committee. Generally, more consideration is given to those requests that will eventually impact the largest number of faculty and students and those requests that integrate departments and disciplines; however, individual grants are also given serious consideration. Final decisions on the awards are made by the FEC. Funds are distributed to the individuals or organizations upon receipt of necessary documentation. The FEC receives written reports from individual faculty members and communication from the principal after completion of the projects.
