Description	The Living Room Center (TLR) is a one program, daytime drop-in center for women and children who are homeless or at-risk of homelessness. TLR serves all of Sonoma County from its downtown Santa Rosa location. The Center is open weekdays from 8:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., providing participants who are living on the streets, in shelters, camps and vehicles, access to vital services and daytime safety during the hours that shelters are closed.Each component of our program creates opportunity, enhanced self-esteem and provides physical and emotional well-being for the most vulnerable women and children in our community. TLR delivers emergency and support services: meals, hygiene supplies, mailing address, telephone, computers/internet access, bus tickets, referrals, case management, advocacy, supervised children's activities, parenting and life skills classes, and visits with outreach workers from collaborating agencies. Trained staff and volunteers assist participants to access resources to support resiliency, enhance self-esteem, enable long-term solutions, create opportunities for improved life circumstances and applaud successes.At TLR, women and their children are welcomed and offered physical, emotional, and spiritual (not religious) support. The center provides respite. It is a place where women can meet with other women and children can play and learn. It is a place where they are sheltered from the hardships and dangers faced on the street. Women come to The Living Room Center to make permanent, positive changes, helping them to better function in their lives and in our community. In the Mother and Child (MAC) component of the program, the goal is to support a safe, enriched child-friendly environment through provision of basic resources/services, health/nutrition (nutritious meals/snacks/baby formula, health education for mothers/children, safe, supervised activities to promote gross and fine motor skills) and to provide parent education to promote healthy child development, healthy mother/child bonding and to prevent child abuse. The Drop-In Center component provides basic services and referrals. We start by serving nutritionally balanced breakfasts and lunches daily. Telephones and computers with internet allow participants to receive and send messages in their search for housing, employment, education, health and other services. As of September 30, 2010, our community has donated over $70,000 worth of in-kind materials, including basic hygiene items like toothpaste, shampoo and diapers. These items are given to women and children according to need. The bus tickets we distribute allow participants to get to appointments and work. We supply participants with vouchers to replace clothing they have lost during flight from domestic violence and clothing that is worn out. We provide basic clothing and foul weather gear including caps, jackets, gloves, socks and undergarments, blankets, umbrellas and tarps. Life skills classes such as money management, decision making, problem solving and communication teach methods to better handle challenges. Referrals are made to whatever services are needed. In 2010, we served 646 unduplicated women and 362 unduplicated children for a total of 18,906 client visits. We do not charge a fee for our services.	Description
