Description	In 2011, the APL assisted more than 16,000 animals through a variety of programs and services. The APL's humane investigations department opened more than 1,400 new cases in response to reports of animal cruelty and rescued more than 400 animals from abuse or neglect throughout Cuyahoga County. Through the adoption program, 5,800 animals were placed into new homes. Through the transfer program, more than 1,100 animals came into the APL from overcrowded shelters so they could go up for adoption. Through the APL Shelter Clinic and Animal Welfare Spay/Neuter Clinic, more than 11,200 animals were sterilized, including more than 5,500 stray cats through the Trap-Neuter-Return program. Finally, the Second Chance Program allowed the APL's veterinary team to provide care to homeless animals that had treatable illnesses and injuries.	Description
