Description	THE ORGANIZATION PROVIDES THE GENERAL PUBLIC WITH A ZOO WHERE IT MAINTAINS ANIMALS AND INFORMS AND EDUCATES THE PUBLIC ABOUT ANIMALS, NATURE AND THE PLIGHT OF ENDANGERED SPECIES. 2011 SAW ANOTHER RECORD BREAKING ATTENDANCE YEAR WITH 648,034 TOTAL VISITORS. NASHVILLE ZOO WAS RANKED IN 2011 AS THE #1 PAID ATTRACTION IN MIDDLE TENNESSEE AND THE EIGHTH MOST VISITED ATTRACTION IN THE STATE. ZOO MEMBERSHIP ALSO HIT AN ALL TIME HIGH OF OVER 30,000 HOUSEHOLDS WHICH REPRESENT MORE THAN 135,000 PEOPLE. OVER 41,000 SCHOOL CHILDREN VISITED THE ZOO IN 2011 AS PART OF THEIR EDUCATION CURRICULUM, OF WHICH 25% CAME FROM TITLE I SCHOOLS. IN 2011, 667 EDUCATIONAL PROGRAMS WERE OFFERED ON SITE OR THROUGH OUR OUTREACH INITIATIVES AND 23,200 TOOK ADVANTAGE OF THOSE OPPORTUNITIES. ALL OF THIS COMBINED PUTS NASHVILLE ZOO ON THE MAP AS A TOP VISITOR DESTINATION, IN THE FOREFRONT IN ANIMAL CARE AND AS AN EDUCATIONAL RESOURCE FOR THE ENTIRE COMMUNITY.	Description

Part X	Part X : FIN48 Footnote	The Organization is exempt from income taxes under section 501(c)(3) of the internal revenue code and has been classified as other than a private foundation. Accordingly, no provision has been made for income taxes in the accompanying financial statements.The Organization follows FASB ASC guidance related to unrecognized tax benefits. The guidance clarifies the accounting for uncertainty in income taxes recognized in an organization's financial statements. This guidance prescribes a minimum probability threshold that a tax position must meet before a financial statement benefit is recognized. The minimum threshold is defined as a tax position that is more likely than not to be sustained upon examination by the applicable taxing authority, including resolution of any related appeals or litigation processes, based on the technical merits of the position. The tax benefit to be recognized is measured as the largest amount of benefit that is greater than fifty percent likely of being realized upon ultimate settlement. The Organization has no tax penalties or interest reported in the accompanying financial statements. Tax years remaining open for examination include the years ended December 31, 2008 through 2011.
