| Description | Mechanisms of Medication in Hypertension in Blacks study In April 2007, MUMRI began a four year NIH funded study entitled "Mechanisms of Meditation in Hypertension in Blacks" (PI Dr. Robert Schneider). The goal of this study is to examine the underlying biological, psychosocial, and behavioral mechanisms that may explain the observed benefit of transcendental meditation (tm) to reduce hypertension on African Americans. This study is being conducted in collaboration with Howard University. In the studys fourth year, the targeted enrollment of 152 subjects was realized and post-testing was completed at the Howard University performance site. MUMRIs data management coordinating center conducted randomization and data entry activities. Two required Data Safety and Monitoring Board meetings were held via teleconference. The study is in a No Cost Extension. The data management activities have been completed. Further data analysis and interpretation remain to be completed as well as the write up of study results. | Description |

| Description | RCT of Stress Reduction in the Secondary Prevention of CHD in African AmericansIn October, 2009, began a two year NIH funded study as part of the American Redevelopment and Recovery Act entitled "RCT of Stress Reduction in the Secondary Prevention of CHD in African Americans." The overall objective of the study is to conduct a randomized controlled trial to determine the efficacy of cardiac rehabilitation with and without a structured, standardized, and validated stress reduction component in the secondary prevention of CHD in African Americans. 56 subjects will be enrolled. This study is being conducted in collaboration with Columbia University. Year 3 activities included IRB and informed consent revisions, subject recruitment and data collection. | Description | Sanskrit Lexicon SourcesDigital Synthesis and Revision funded by the National Endowment of the Humanities. The project aims to succeed in producing a comprehensive Sanskrit lexical resource in incremental stages by utilizing innovative technological methods in an integratedlibrary of texts, linguistic software, and lexical sources. The project integrates existing digitized major Sanskrit lexical reference works and extends them by digitizing and integrating subsequently published additions and corrections, specialized dictionaries, indigenous Indian monolingual dictionaries, traditional thesauri, and traditional linguistic analyses. Furthermore,the project improves the utility and accessibility of the resources and establishes a web-based framework for continual future revision. The project pays for the services PI, Dr. Peter Scharf and of Dr. Ralph Bunker who provided the technical/computer services to the project. | Description |
