| Description | HUMANITARIAN AID:SINCE MECA WAS FOUNDED IN 1988, WE HAVE SENT OR DELIVERED MORE THAN 19 MILLION DOLLARS IN AID TO CHILDREN IN PALESTINE, IRAQ, AND LEBANON TO ALLEVIATE THE SUFFERING CAUSED BY WAR, SANCTIONS, AND OCCUPATION. WE SEND SHIPMENTS OF MEDICINE, MEDICAL EQUIPMENT AND SUPPLIES, AS WELL AS CLOTHES, BOOKS, TOYS, AND SCHOOL SUPPLIES.IN FY 2012-2013 MECA:- PARTNERED WITH ANERA TO SEND 2 CONTAINERS OF QUILTS, BABY CARE KITS, HYGIENE KITS, AND TOOTHPASTE TO REFUGEES IN LEBANON. THE VALUE OF MECA'S CONTRIBUTION WAS VALUED AT $189,568.50.- COVERED THE CUSTOMS EXPENSES FOR AN AID SHIPMENT SENT TO REFUGEE IN LEBANON IN THE PREVIOUS FISCAL YEAR.- MADE A GRANT TO CHILDREN AND YOUTH CENTER TO PURCHASE FOOD, DIAPERS, VITAMINS AND OTHER URGENT SUPPLIES FOR REFUGEE FAMILIES IN LEBANON AS WELL AS TO ORGANIZE FREE MEDICAL CHECK-UPS FOR CHILDREN AND PREGNANT WOMEN. - PURCHASED TREES TO PLANT IN PALESTINIAN TOWNS AND VILLAGES AS PART OF OUR PLANT-A-TREE PROJECTSUPPORT FOR PALESTINIAN CHILDREN'S PROJECTS:MECA HAS LONG-TERM PARTNERSHIPS WITH SEVERAL GRASSROOTS ORGANIZATIONS IN PALESTINE THAT ADDRESS CHILDREN'S BASIC NEEDS AND OFFER THEM OPPORTUNITIES TO PLAY, LEARN AND ENVISION A BETTER FUTURE. WE PROVIDE FINANCIAL SUPPORT AND PROFESSIONAL ASSISTANCE FOR THEIR PROGRAMS, RESPONDING TO REQUESTS FOR WHAT IS NEEDED IN EACH OF THEIR COMMUNITIES.IN FY 2012-2013 MECA:- PROVIDED GRANTS TO THE FREEDOM THEATRE IN JENIN REFUGEE CAMP FOR GENERAL OPERATING EXPENSES, THE FREEDOM BUS PROJECT, AND THEIR MULTIMEDIA UNIT- PROVIDED GRANTS TO AFAQ JADEEDA ASSOCIATION FOR TWO FREE SUMMER CAMPS IN NUSEIRAT AND RAFAH AREAS OF GAZA AS WELL AS FOR FOUR MONTHS "LET THE CHILDREN PLAY AND HEAL" PROJECT TO ADDRESS TRAUMA FROM THE BLOCKADE AND MILITARY ATTACKS ON GAZA BY LEADING ART ACTIVITIES FOR CHILDREN AND EDUCATING AND TRAINING PARENTS, SOCIAL WORKERS, AND TEACHERS ON HOW TO IDENTIFY SIGNS OF TRAUMA AND PROVIDE SUPPORT TO CHILDREN "PLAY AND HEAL" FOCUSED ON THE MIDDLE AREAS OF THE GAZA STRIP. ALSO DONATED A CAMERA TO DOCUMENT THE "PLAY AND HEAL" PROJECT. - PROVIDED A GRANT TO RED CRESCENT SOCIETY FOR THE GAZA STRIP TO ORGANIZE PSYCHOSOCIAL SESSIONS WITH CHILDREN AND WOMEN IN GAZA WHO WERE DIRECTLY IMPACTED BY THE VIOLENCE IN NOVEMBER 2012. - PROVIDED A GRANT TO PALESTINIAN MEDICAL RELIEF SOCIETIES TO ORGANIZE PSYCHOSOCIAL ACTIVITIES IN THE NORTHERN AREAS OF THE GAZA STRIP. - PROVIDED START-UP FUNDS TO SHORUQ ORGANIZATION TO FURNISH AND COMPLETE CONSTRUCTION OF THEIR AUDIO PRODUCTION STUDIO CENTER IN DHEISHEH REFUGEE CAMP, BETHLEHEM INCLUDING EQUIPMENT, TO RUN A THEORETICAL COURSE FOR YOUTH ON MEDIA AND HUMAN RIGHTS, TO COVER THEIR GENERAL OPERATING EXPENSES, TO ORGANIZE TWO FREE SUMMER CAMPS AND A CHILDRENS MAGAZINE PROJECT, AS WELL AS TO RUN A PROJECT FOR CHILDREN IN TEL RUMEIDA, HEBRON THAT GIVES CHILDREN IN THIS ISOLATED AND OFTEN VIOLENT AREA A CHANCE TO PLAY AND A HEALTHY FOOD PROJECT FOR 400 CHILDREN IN A BETHLEHEM VILLAGE. - PROVIDED FUNDS FOR RIWAQ ASSOCIATION TO PURCHASE AND INSTALL PLAYGROUND EQUIPMENT IN ABWEIN, NISF JBEIL, AND BEIT UR VILLAGES AS PART OF THEIR RESTORATION AND REVITALIZATION OF THE VILLAGES HISTORIC CENTERS- PROVIDED FUNDS TO THE PALESTINE WRITING WORKSHOP FOR CREATIVE WRITING WORKSHOPS WITH 15 YOUTH IN JALAZONE REFUGEE CAMP AND THEIR FESTIVAL OF STORIES AND STRANGE CREATURES IN BIRZEIT WHICH BROUGHT TOGETHER FAMILIES FOR A DAY OF ART AND STORYTELLING INCLUDING THE PRESENTATION OF THE FINISHED PIECES FROM THE JALAZONE WORKSHOPS. ALSO DONATED TOTE BAGS AND TSHIRTS TO THE PALESTINE WRITING WORKSHOP FOR SOME OF THE CHILDREN AND VOLUNTEERS AS WELL AS TO SELL TO RAISE FUNDS FOR THEIR PROJECTS.- PROVIDED GRANT TO THE UNION OF HEALTH WORK COMMITTEES TO BUY FURNITURE AND MATERIALS FOR THE CHILDRENS PLAYROOM AT THE RACHEL CORRIE CENTER IN RAFAH, GAZA.- PROVIDED GRANT TO SHAMIKHON FOR MONTHLY EDUCATIONAL ACTIVITIES WITH YOUTH IN THEIR NEW CENTER IN NAZARETHTHE MAIA PROJECT:THE MAIA PROJECT TO PROVIDE CLEAN WATER TO CHILDREN IN GAZA BEGAN AT THE REQUEST OF SCHOOLCHILDREN IN GAZA.
