| Description | BUTTON HOLE GOLF COURSE & TEACHING CENTER ENRICHES THE LIVES OF YOUNG PEOPLE BY PROVIDING FACILITIES AND PROGRAMS THAT DEVELOP STRONG CHARACTER, TEACH LIFE VALUES AND CHAMPION SUCCESS THROUGH THE GAME OF GOLF. REGARDLESS OF RACE AND ECONOMIC BACKGROUND, BUTTON HOLE STRIVES TO BREAK THE FINANCIAL AND SOCIAL BARRIERS TO THE GAME OF GOLF. IN 2012 BUTTON HOLE REACHED OUT TO FOUR SCHOOLS AND 1,840 KIDS THROUGH THE LOCAL PROVIDENCE ELEMENTARY, MIDDLE AND HIGH SCHOOLS AS A PART OF THEIR PHYSICAL EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS AND TAUGHT THEM A FOUR HOURS OF AN INTRODUCTION TO GOLF. BUTTON HOLE SCHOLARSHIPS ALL COSTS FOR THE IN-SCHOOL INTRODUCTION TO GOLF PROGRAM. ON AVERAGE 80% OF THESE CHILDREN LIVE IN FAMILIES THAT ARE AT OR BELOW POVERTY LEVEL. (INFORMATION CAN BE FOUND ON THE PROVIDENCE PUBLIC SCHOOL DEPARTMENT WEBSITE.) THE GOAL OF THIS PROGRAM IS TO INTRODUCE THESE INNER CITY CHILDREN TO THE GAME AND THEN BRING THEM OUT TO THE GOLF COURSE THROUGH SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAMS AND GROW THEM AS JUNIOR GOLFERS AND ATHLETES.BUTTON HOLE OFFERS AFTER SCHOOL PROGRAMS TO MANY DIFFERENT AGENCIES AND COMMUNITY PARTNERS AT DISCOUNTED OR FULL SCHOLARSHIP. IN 2012 THEY OFFERED 13 AGENCIES PROGRAMMING FOR FREE OR AT PARTIAL COST, INCLUDING SPECIAL OLYMPICS, SAN MIGUEL, ST. MARY'S AND MORE. IN ADDITION THEY ALSO OFFERED OVER 121 KIDS FULL SCHOLARSHIPS FOR THEIR REGULAR BUTTON HOLE PROGRAMMING WHICH TOTALED $11,537. BUTTON HOLE ALSO OFFERS SPECIAL EVENTS TO KIDS AT NO CHARGE.
