| Desc | Meetings & Education: The Endocrine Society (ES) provides educational programs for researchers and clinical medical professionals to increase the understanding of biomedical research into endocrine disorders and the treatment of patients with endocrine-related medical conditions. ES is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME) and its Continuing Medical Education programs are planned and conducted in strict compliance with ACCME standards and requirements. Each year ES holds a four-day educational meeting (ENDO) focused on the field of endocrinology. Each attendee may earn up to 32.5 continuing medical education (CME) credits for the core educational program. ES also holds an annual Clinical Endocrinology Update (CEU) event where professionals may earn up to 26 CME credits, depending on the education options chosen. The Society provides many other opportunities for professional education and credit in various formats during the year including but not limited to: in-person speaker events, educational books, online courses, study guides, monographs, and webcasts. The Society also collaborates with other medical and scientific professional societies and often co-sponsors educational events when the topics are of interest to Society membership and are consistent with the Society's mission. In order to support and encourage participation by early-career professionals, the Society often provides travel grants and awards to trainees. | Desc |

| Explanation | All awards accounted for on the accrual basis. Summer Research Awards: These awards are to fund promising undergraduate, graduate, and medical students who intend to pursue careers in endocrinology. The students participate in research projects under the guidance of a Society member for 10 - 12 weeks in the summer. A Society member acts as advisor and evaluates the students' work. Student Author Awards: Awardees are chosen from authors of papers that are accepted as articles in one of the Society's journals. The student authors sign up to be considered for the award. All awardees must submit curricula vitae to ensure they are eligible. Since the award is given for work already completed, there is no need to monitor the use of the funds. Travel Awards: Travel awards are for trainees in endocrinology to travel to the Society's annual educational meeting. The checks are distributed at the meeting. It is assumed the attendee needed the funds for travel if they attended the meeting. If an awardee does not attend the meeting, the award is not provided to them. Abstract awards: awardees are chosen from applications based on research work that resulted in a scientific abstract. The awardee must present a poster at the society's annual educational meeting. Since the award is given for work already completed, there is no need to monitor the use of the funds. | Explanation | Endocrine Research Grants - several types: Research Grants for MD's or PhD candidates: awards are based on an application process that includes specific research under a mentor who is a Society member. Completion requires that an abstract will be presented at the Society's annual educational meeting and that an article published in a peer-reviewed journal should result from the research. Summer Research Awards: These awards are to fund promising undergraduate, graduate, and medical students who intend to pursue careers in endocrinology. The students participate in research projects under the guidance of a Society member for 10 - 12 weeks in the summer. The Society member acts as advisor and evaluates the students' work. Travel Awards: Travel awards are for trainees in endocrinology to travel to the Society's annual educational meeting. The checks are distributed at the meeting. It is assumed the attendee needed the funds for travel if they attended the meeting. If an awardee does not attend the meeting, the award is not provided to them. Awards for Outstanding Contributions to the field of Endocrinology are based on nominations from members of the Society. They are given for a body of work during the career of the winner and there is no requirement to monitor the use of funds. All other Grants and awards are given based on an application or a nomination by a society member that references certain work of the applicant, such as a scientific abstract, an article, a poster, excellence in education, or a body of work. Some of the awards stipulate that the awardee present a poster or give an oral presentation at the Society's annual educational meeting.
