DescCollege/Career Readiness - One of MBAE central goals is to ensure that all students acquire the knowledge and skills they will need to succeed in college and career, and that our schools prepare students for the changing demands of the workplace. We work with policy and business partners to increase the number of students who take a rigorous curriculum in high school, and to help students, parents and community leaders understand the critical need to increase the educational attainment of our citizens. This year, we played a leadership role in the state's Future Ready Massachusetts public information campaign, working with mentoring organizations to provide information and materials for their programs, reaching new communities to support local efforts and partnering with state agencies for a summit attended by 600 people involved with youth programs.Desc

DescNew Oppurtunity to Lead - MBAE's project to guide the next wave of education improvements in Massachusetts involved over 200 people in workshops and focus groups. Our provocative March 2014 report set out a new education vision that will help all students achieve at high levels and prepare for success in a 21st century economy and society. After widespread attention, the report now serves as the basis for discussion and common understanding of challenges Massachusetts faces. State education, business and political leaders have referenced the report's importance in stimulating bigger, long-term thinking about the education system's response to growing international competition.Desc

DescEDUCATION REFORM - MBAE is celebrating its 25th anniversary, which coincides with the 20th anniversary of education reforms developed by the organization based on high standards and accountability in return for funding to meet these demands. This compact has propelled Massachusetts to the top of the nation on many measures of education progress yet unacceptable socio-economic and racial achievement gaps persist. MBAE therefore spent much of this year planning and beginning a major project to assess the status of education attainment in the Commonwealth, explore what other high performing states and nations are doing, and produce recommendations for accelerating progress in education reform in MassachusettsDesc

ExplanationThe Massachusetts Business Alliance for Education (MBAE) is committed to a high quality public education system that will prepare all students to engage successfully in a global economy and society. To fulfill this mission, we lobbied members of the Massachusetts legislature in favor of bills that would provide increased opportunities for innovation to raise student achievement in Massachusetts and strengthen the state's competitive position as states across the country enact education reforms required by the federal Race to the Top. Our activities included emails, letters, face-to-face meetings, phone calls and testimony as well as the provision of research information and data.ExplanationTxt
