Part V, Line 4:The intended use of The Chicago School - California, Inc. (the College's) endowment fund is for its program services.
Part X, Line 2:The College has received notification that it qualifies as a tax-exempt organization under Section 501(c)(3) of the U.S. Internal Revenue Code and corresponding provisions of state law and, accordingly, is not subject to federal or state income taxes. The accounting standard on accounting for uncertainty in income taxes addresses the determination of whether tax benefits claimed or expected to be claimed on a tax return should be recorded in the finanical statements. Under this guidance, the College may recognize the tax benefit from an uncertain tax position only if it is more likely than not that the tax position will be sustained on examination by taxing authorities, based on the technical merits of the position. Examples of tax positions include the tax-exempt status of the College and various positions related to the potential sources of unrelated business taxable income. There were no unrecognized tax benefits identified or recorded as liabilities for the years ended May 31, 2017. The College files Form 990 annually in the U.S. federal jurisdiction and in its respective state or district. The College's Form 990 for fiscal year ended May 31, 2014, and subsequent years are subject to examination by the Internal Revenue Service.
