Schedule D, Part V, Line 4The university's endowment funds provide scholarships and support for university programs to deliver the educational mission.
Schedule D, Part X, Line 2The university follows accounting guidance related to accounting for uncertain income tax positions. As required by the guidance, the university recognizes in its financial statements the financial effects of a tax position, if that position is more likely than not of being sustained upon examination, including resolution of any appeals or litigation processes, based upon the technical merits of the position. The university recognizes the potential accrued interest and penalties related to unrecognized tax benefits within general institutional expenses. Tax positions taken related to the university's tax exempt status, unrelated business activities taxable income and the deductibility of expenses and other miscellaneous tax positions have been reviewed and management is of the opinion that material positions taken by the university would more likely than not be sustained by examination. Accordingly, the university has not recorded an income tax liability for uncertain tax positions.

Form And Line ReferenceSchedule I, Part I, Line 2FormAndLineReferenceDesc
ExplanationSt. Edward's University's Office of Student Financial Services monitors the use of grant funds through the use of an enrollment committee, compliance and funds management, and annual independent audits. The enrollment committee reviews awarding and renewal policies for the university grants and scholarships and establishes freshmen and transfer enrollment goals along with the financial aid packaging strategy necessary to achieve these goals. The committee engages a nationally recognized leader in the enrollment management consulting field to assist in the establishment and monitoring of freshmen and transfer enrollment goals and financial aid packaging. Each committee member and other key university personnel receive weekly reports throughout the financial aid awarding cycle. The Enrollment Committee is comprised of the Vice President for Academic Affairs, Vice President for Marketing and Enrollment Management, Vice Presidentfor Finance and Administration(ex-officio), Associate Vice President for Student Financial Services and Associate Vice President for Undergraduate Admission. To ensure compliance and proper fund management, the university uses an enterprise software to track all funding sources for scholarships from university, federal, state, local and private sources. The software has a comprehensive Compliance and Funds Management module and allows staff to add additional functionality as necessary. The compliance module identifies grant and scholarship offers that fail to meet awarding criteria and prevents financial aid from being applied to a student if the student does not meet the disbursing criteria. Financial aid records and university general ledger records are reconciled using the funds management function. Further monitoring is accomplished through diagnostic reports by financial aid identifying codes, types of grants, forms of grants and individual funding sources. Annual audits are performed by an independent public accounting firm that renders an opinion as to whether federal and certain state funded financial aid programs are exercised in compliance with applicable laws and regulations governing said programs.ExplanationTxt
