| PROGRAM SERVICE ACCOMPLISHMENTS | form 990 part iii program service lines 4a-4d OVERVIEW The Atlanta Partners for Education (APFE) is a joint venture between the Metro Atlanta Chamber (MAC) and the Atlanta Public Schools (APS) dedicated to serving the students of APS by providing opportunities for direct investment in public education in the city of Atlanta. APFE is a 501(c)(3) organization that was founded in 1981 to provide a vehicle for the active participation of Atlanta-area businesses and the larger community in supporting APS. PURPOSE The APFE organization is based on the belief that businesses and communities that are actively involved in the school system have a deeper understanding of what is needed in order to make a positive difference in the lives of Atlantas school children. APFEs purpose is to work in concert with the APS Office of Partnerships and Development and act as a fiscal agent for community involvement and direct financial support of public education in Atlanta. WHAT WE BELIEVE APFE believes that an educated workforce is the key to our citys economic growth. It also believes that a collective effort is needed to build a strong public school system to provide a quality education to prepare all students for college and career. APFE believes that the APS cannot do it alone and exists to leverage the strength of MAC and the corporate community in Atlanta to offer solutions for APS unmet strategic priorities geared toward improving student achievement. LEADERSHIP APFE is governed by a Board of Advisors consisting of representatives from Atlantas business, civic, philanthropic and education communities. The APFE Advisory Board is responsible for monitoring APFEs operations and recommending resources and procedures that will ensure effective and fiscally sound programs and operations, while also providing leadership and visioning advice. APFES ROLE AS A FISCAL AGENT APFE is comprised of community members, business representatives and civic leaders who work together to enrich APS. Supporting the district or a school through APFE allows APS leadership access to additional support and partnerships with external stakeholders to better execute on its strategic plan. APFE offers the Atlanta-area business community and various nonprofit, civic, higher- education, religious, social, and professional organizations the best opportunity to directly strengthen their commitments to public education. APFE acts as a pass-thru or fiscal agent for APS, so organizations can make charitable donations to APS schools and receive a tax deduction (EIN is 58-1463137). Back to School Bash This event helps Atlanta Public School (APS) Families prepare for the upcoming school year. The Bash is a one-stop shop for all incoming and returning APS Students and their families to learn about everything students will need for the first day of school. The event offers health screenings, on-site enrollment and registration, APS Programs and services, community and afterschool resources, fun activities for children, and a free backpack stuffed with school supplies. General Program This a general pass-thru source for directing funds from supporters to a specific school. In 2017 the Benteen/Thomasville School received donations from supporters in support of a program. State of the District Address The Annual State of the District Address is the premiere opportunity for APS Superintendent Dr. Meria J. Carstarphen to publicly comment on the strategic direction of the school district. This event is a cornerstone moment for the superintendent to set the tone for the direction of APS and keep the community informed of its progress. |
