Following the onset of COVID-19, the Bronx Museum temporarily closed in accordance with the New York Pause Executive Order in March 2020, and regular exhibition programming, K-12 arts education, and public programs were replaced by a series of virtual panels, artist talks, workshops and video-based arts programming. Chief among them was The Bronx Museum at Home featuring: Guided Tours - virtual tours of current and past exhibitions; Art Studio - educators demonstrating art-making activities; Sharing Stories - Bronx-themed films either youth-made or youth focused; Meet the Artist - interviews with artists discussing their practice filmed by teens, and Family Affair: Bring the Museum Home, a virtual Saturday art-making program for children. Virtual programming also included School Partnerships, Cultural After School Adventures (CASA) program, Teen Council, Teen Summer, and our AIM Fellowship career seminar for emerging artists. In addition, the Museum participated in another year of the City-funded "Art as a Catalyst for Change" anti-gun series for Bronx middle and high schools. The Bronx Museum was able to continue its Free Admission initiative in September 2020 when indoor New York City museums were permitted to re-open with capacity constraints. |
