| Description | The Dallas Museum of Art organizes and presents innovative exhibitions and programs for the enrichment of the Dallas community. Each year, approximately 16 exhibitions are presented by the Museum, four to six exhibitions drawn primarily from its own collections and an additional eight to ten nationally and internationally touring exhibitions also are presented. The collection includes over 24,000 objects spanning 5,000 years of human history originating from cultures on every continent. Primary to the mission of the Museum is the stewardship, protection, and development of the collection. To engage visitors to the collection, the Museum has developed a growing repository of digital resources accessible on the internet that serve researchers, students, educators, and art enthusiasts. | Description | EDUCATION AND INTERPRETATION: ONE IN TWO VISITORS TO THE DMA PARTICIPATES IN AN EDUCATIONAL PROGRAM. APPROXIMATELY 6,300 PROGRAMS CONNECT VISITORS WITH THE PERMANENT COLLECTIONS EACH YEAR. K-12 STUDENT AND TEACHER PROGRAMS PROVIDE GALLERY EXPERIENCES AND RELATED ACTIVITIES FOR OVER 74,000 STUDENTS FROM PUBLIC AND PRIVATE SCHOOLS IN DALLAS AND ITS SURROUNDING COUNTIES THE DMA IS ONE OF ONLY A HANDFUL OF MUSEUMS NATIONALLY THAT OFFERS PROGRAMS AND LEARNING SPACES DEDICATED TO EDUCATING CHILDREN UNDER THE AGE OF FIVE ABOUT ART AND CREATIVE EXPRESSION. ACCORDING TO A RECENT AUDIT, WE ARE THE ONLY MUSEUM THAT OFFERS PARENT EDUCATION PROGRAMS, TODDLER ART CLASSES AND OTHER INNOVATIVE EDUCATIONAL RESOURCES FORMED IN DIRECT RESPONSE TO THE NEEDS OF OUR VISITORS. WE ALSO ENGAGE AUDIENCES WITH VISION AND MOBILITY IMPAIRMENTS, EARLY STAGE DEMENTIA, AND CHILDREN WITH AUTISM THROUGH A UNIQUE SUITE OF PROGRAMMING CALLED ACCESS PROGRAMS. IN ADDITION, DALLAS MUSEUM OF ART SERVES THE COMMUNITY THROUGH OUTREACH PROGRAMS WHICH SERVE APPROXIMATELY 48,000 INDIVIDUALS ANNUALY AT COMMUNITY FESTIVALS, THROUGH THE MUSEUM'S GO VAN GOGH PROGRAM, AND THROUGH PARTNERSHIPS WITH AREA CULTURAL AND EDUCATIONAL ORGANIZATIONS. COMMUNITY PARTNERS INCLUDE ARC OF DALLAS, AVANCE, THE LATINO CULTURAL CENTER, THE DALLAS PUBLIC LIBRARY, BIG THOUGHT, SOUTH DALLAS CULTURAL CENTER, THE DALLAS ZOO, AND MANY OTHERS. THE MUSEUM ALSO REGULARLY COLLABORATES WITH AND CO-ORGANIZES ARTS DISTRICT EVENTS WITH ITS ARTS DISTRICT NEIGHBORS INCLUDING THE NASHER SCULPTURE CENTER, THE CROW COLLECTION OF ASIAN ART, THE DALLAS SYMPHONY AND THE DALLAS OPERA.
