The Chair also monitors the outside activities of the Executive Director to ensure no conflicts of interest are taking place. Employees are required to disclose to the Executive Director all outside activities which could be considered a potential conflict of interest.

The NDHC Executive Committee conducts performance reviews and has available to them the annual salary survey of humanities councils conducted by the Federation of State Humanities Councils. All NDHC board actions related to compensation are recorded in the October board meeting minutes. This review was last undertaken at the October, 2010 NDHC Board of Directors meeting.
