A primary focus is on helping caregivers improve their ability to manage the stressors that can impact the well-being of their children. Additionally, the Clinic's CalWORKs program provides support to adults experiencing barriers to employment due to mental health problems. For the past two years the Clinic's CalWORKs program has been recognized by the County Department of Mental Health with its Best Practices Award.Description

DescriptionFull Service Partnerships:Full Service Partnership is a comprehensive array of intensive, coordinated services for underserved, high-risk children and youth who exhibit severe behavioral problems. Therapists, case managers, and psychiatrists offer parents and caregivers therapy, skill-building rehabilitation, case management, and medication services, as well as mental health and substance abuse treatment services. The guiding principle which undergirds the Full Service Partnership program is "whatever it takes" with staff committed to partnering with caregivers and consumers to craft service plans which meet their unique needs and which lead to improved consumer well-being. Access Center/Walk-In Clinic:The Walk-In Clinic - with its no-fee, no-appointment mental health screenings for families who are seeking help - serves as our central access center. Open from 8:00 a.m. until noon five days a week, the Walk-In Clinic enhances the Clinic's capacity to quickly respond to families' emergent needs. Therapists are available to assess and open cases as necessary, as well as provide connections to such much-needed resources including enrollment in Medi-Cal or Healthy Families insurance plans. Life Learning Program:Nationally accredited by The Rehabilitation Accreditation Commission, the Life Learning Program partners with the State Department of Rehabilitation and the County Department of Mental Health to provide job development and placement services for adolescents and young adults, ages 15 to 21, who have significant mental health problems. The Life Learning Program aims to equip young adults with essential skills and experience to transition successfully to independent community life. We blend vocational education, employment services, rehabilitation, case management, and medication services to provide a wide range of needed services. The program's goals are to assist these young adults in sustaining positive peer relationships and in accessing stable housing, higher education, job opportunities, and other community services and resources.Description

DescriptionAfter-School Day Treatment:The intensive five-day-a-week Day Treatment Program serves children ages 5 to 11 who have emotional and behavioral difficulties too severe for remediation through outpatient treatment. These children typically are referred for such issues as defiance, aggression, poor impulse control, low frustration tolerance, hyperactivity, social withdrawal, low-esteem, and/or depressed mood. Such problems manifest at school, in the home and/or with peers. They place the child at risk for school failure and out-of-home placement, making it difficult for him or her to experience success in school or in the community. A multi-disciplinary treatment team of therapists, mental health rehabilitation specialists, milieu aides, and psychiatrists partner with parents and caregivers to identify specific goals for each child and develop individual treatment plans. In a nurturing, supportive environment, we assist children in developing respect for themselves and others, acquiring a sense of responsibility for their actions, and increasing positive social and coping skills. Treatment includes participation in skill-building activities, individual and group adjunctive therapies, and psychotherapy.Description

ExpenseExpenseDescriptionDescription
957564Early Intervention Intensive Day Treatment:The Early Intervention Day Treatment Program targets children ages 2.5 to 5 years old who frequently display multiple problem behaviors so severe they interfere with family functioning and may have resulted in the child being expelled from preschool. Such children most typically have experienced complex trauma and may have significant early attachment disorders. In a highly structured, nurturing environment, trained staff use art, music, and movement therapies to engage children in self-expression directed toward reducing problem behaviors. Parents and caregivers participate in family and support groups, with home visits an integral service.
835919Medication Support:When clinically indicated clients are referred for a psychiatric evaluation that includes a determination of appropriateness for medication. During the medication evaluation clients and families, as appropriate, are informed of medication classification, administration procedures, and potential side effects. Clients and families are also educated about the synergistic effects of combining psychotropic medication with alcohol and/or drugs that place the individual at high risk for increased level of impairment.
333237special Purpose Funds:The Clinic has established this fund to accept gifts and grants from the private/philanthropic sector in order to innovate and/or sustain services, which are at the heart of the Clinic's mission to provide quality mental health services to a community in great need by ensuring easy access and promoting early intervention.
307676Wraparound:A nationally recognized model of service delivery, designed for families with a child who has been in (or is at risk of) a high-level residential placement. Services in this Department of Children and Family Services initiative are driven by family-designated teams that include professional staff, family members, and other community members. This individualized blend of interventions can include mental health and other supportive services and activities, including recreational, vocational, and educational, that support the optimal functioning of the clients involved. Parent partners play a vital role as a primary support to parents and caregivers in building on family strengths to promote a better future for their child.
221828Outreach and Mental Health Promotion:includes strategic alliance-building, policy development, agency communications, community outreach and mental health promotion.
168249Vocational education:Nationally accredited by The Rehabilitation Accreditation Commission, the Life Learning Program provides support for youth and young adults with mental health disabilities who are transitioning to the adult world of higher education, employment, and independent living. The program improves opportunities for self-sufficiency by developing the range of vocational and social skills needed to achieve goals. Program staff provides career and job counseling and concrete assistance suited to the needs of the individual consumer and his or her family.
