| Description | Camp Community PartnersWith over 30,000 juvenile offenders incarcerated in three Juvenile Halls and eighteen Residential Treatment Centers (camps), Los Angeles County Juvenile Justice System stands alone as one of the largest detention systems in the country. According to California's Division of Juvenile Justices, 70% of youth paroled from its institutions are rearrested within two years.Camp Community Partners (CCP) was created in 2002 by the New Visions Foundation as an alternative response to this negative cycle of incarceration.Located at Probation Camp David Gonzales in the Malibu Mountains, CCP has served more than 600 male probation youth since the program's inception. The program provides both effective in-camp educational resources and re-entry supportive services for 50 male probationers, ages 14-18 each year. * In-camp: Participants attend classes to enhance their education, social skills and coping skills. * Re-entry: CCP begins working with probation participants 60 days prior to their release from camp and continues to work with them for up to six months and/or until they successfully complete their terms of probation.The statistical outcomes cited below tell just part of the story of hundreds of boys whose lives have been transformed due to the education that was provided, the hope that was restored, and the positive alternatives to which they were carefully guided. * RECIDIVISM: The recidivsism rate for youth participating in CCP is 5.1% which is far below studies of similar populations. A 2002 Oregon Youth Authority study found that 40% of its youth were re incarcerated after one year of release. * EDUCATIONAL ENHANCEMENTS:162 CCP participants have taken and passed the GED exam representing a 74% passing rate! | Description |

| Description | Families Helping FamiliesFamilies Helping Families targets disadvantaged families who, with some focused financial, educational and social assistance, will be able to be self-sufficient within a year or two. Five families were assisted during the fiscal year. They are all extremely poor and live in disadvantaged neighborhoods across Los Angeles County, including downtown, Carson, Inglewood and Long Beach. The program focuses on providing: * Quality education for the children. * Safe neighborhood for the family home. * Job or job-track program for the parents (college, vocational training, adult education, etc). * Reliable transportation, such as a vehicle to get the children to school or the parent to a job or job training. | Description |

| Description | Center for Educational OpportunityThe Center for Educational Opportunity (CEO) provides Los Angeles and Ventura Counties' foster children opportunities to excel by matching them with excellent independent and public schools, and providing year-round support services. CEO serves 100 middle and high school students and 30 college students. CEO networks with school principals, teachers, child-focused organizations, foster family agencies, social workers and children's court-appointed attorneys to identify students and meet needs. CEO can support its students in the following ways: * Identifying school matches for foster youth. * Guiding students through the application process. * Providing students with school-related needs, such as books, supplies, technology, and activity fees. * Working with partners to provide additional support services and programming. Only 50% of foster youth graduate from high school nationally. Our program goal is to achieve a high school graduation rate of 75% or better. CEO's 2009 graduation rate was 80%! And 37 students or 90% of retained students have completed high school since the inception of the program in 2000!Only 15% of foster youth attend college. Our program goal is for our high school graduates to achieve an 85% college attendance rate or better! Over the last three years, 93% of our students enrolled in college within a year of completing high school.Only 2% of foster youth graduate from college. Our program goal is to achieve a 60% college graduation rate or better! While our program has only been in existence since 2000, 66% of our high school graduates have earned a post-secondary degree within six years of completing high school. | Description |
