PART III LINE 4DCAMP KATINA
From August 19-21, 2011, Katina Taylor, Vice President and
co-founder of the Jason Taylor Foundation, hosted "Camp Katina -
Cartwheels to Character," a gymnastics, cheerleading and life skills
program for girls ages 7-12. Nearly 50 underserved girls
from Miami-Dade and Broward counties participated in the
three-day camp at the West Broward Gymnastics Academy
in Davie. Campers learned the fundamentals of gymnastics
and cheerleading and heard from a panel of guest speakers made
up of influential South Florida women who discussed topics
including goal setting, healthy eating habits, physical fitness,
etiquette, respect and appreciation for others, education
and goal setting. The camp culminated with a visit from
Katina's NFL All-Pro Husband, Jason Taylor and her brother,
former NFL All-Pro Zach Thomas, who interacted with the kids,
posed for photos and signed autographs for all in attendance.
All campers received medals and certificates recognizing their participation and a
select few were honored for their outstanding performance or
attitudes, with one camper receiving a one-year scholarship to
West Broward Gymnastics Academy.

PART III LINE 4DBACK TO SCHOOL BEST
In an effort to help prepare South Florida youth for the 2011-12 school year,
Katina Taylor developed the "Back to School Best" program to provide
children with new haircuts at the AVEDA Institute. Katina's understanding
of the value of having a positive body image as our youth embark on a
new school year helped her to identify another opportunity to assist children
with focusing on their studies and not their appearance while attending school. In 2011,
the program provided 80 children with a full haircut service and a new backpack
equipped with school supplies. In addition, Jason and Katina Taylor, as well
as special guests including the Miami Dolphins Cheerleaders, were on hand to
interact with the children and their families, ensuring and uplifting back-to-school celebration.
PART III LINE 4DIRIE'S DJ SPINIVERSITY
In February, 2011, the Jason Taylor Foundation partnered with
internationally renowned disc jockey, DJ Irie, for the second year of
"Irie's DJ Spiniversity," a comprehensive, after-school DJ program available free to
children actively attending the Jason Taylor Reading Room in Miramar, Fla. The program is
designed to appeal to the student's love for music and to allow them to incorporate the
educational skills they are provided with at the Reading Room in a performing
arts related outlet. Spiniversity classes took place each Friday at
the Jason Taylor Reading Room, featuring a 15-week curriculum that
offered both classroom and "lab" sessions for the students. Classes were taught
by instructors from the Scratch DJ Academy of Miami, the world's first
and unparalleled DJ school, who taught the students the history of the DJ,
usage of the equipment, music theory, scratching, mixing and a variety
of other fun and educational skills.
PART III LINE 4DJT'S PING PONG SMASH KIDS CLINIC
In December 2011 the Jason Taylor Foundation held the
fourth-annual JT's Ping Pong Smash Kids Clinic. Jason Taylor
teamed up with former Puerto Rican Junior National Table Tennis
Champion, Juan Ly to create the program, which preceded the
Foundation's annual charity table-tennis fundraiser, to offer
boys and girls of South Florida a free opportunity to learn a
range of ping pong skills and strategies from a celebrated
professional. Nearly 100 deserving children from several
different youth organizations throughout Miami-Dade and Broward
counties received 90 minutes of expert table-tennis instruction.
No experience or ping pong background was required. Each child
received an Publix backpack a Killerspin paddle and an invite
to stick around and watch the 3Cinteractive JT Ping
Pong Smash - Presented by Publix. During the tournament,
kids watched celebrities compete against one another, obtained celebrity
autographs, played video games, ate snacks and enjoyed interactive games.
PART III LINE 4DOMARI HARDWICK BLUAPPLE POETRY CORNER
Launched in November, 2011, the Omari Hardwick bluapple Poetry
Corner is a comprehensive, after-school spoken word poetry program
available free to the kids attending the Jason Taylor Reading Room.
The program allows students to utilize critical literacy skills as
a vehicle for self-expression, both written and through performance.
The bluapple Poetry Corner is highlighted by weekly virtual lessons
from Omari Hardwick, who, in addition to having starred in films such as
For Colored Girls, I Will Follow, The A-Team and Next Day Air as well
as the TNT series "Dark Blue," is also an accomplished poet. Through
online "visits" to the Reading Room, Hardwick assists the
students with their writing and performance skills, listens to
their work and shares some of his own. In addition, the program
features a dynamic curriculum created and taught by the
Founder and Director of Spoken Word Press, an organization dedicated to
reaching youth across boundaries of age, race, class, genders
and cultures through poetry
PART III LINE 4DGET ACTIVE!
During the 2011-12 school year, Katina Taylor partnered with Strong Women
, Strong Girls (SWSG), a non-profit organization that positively impacts the lives of girls, grades 3-5
to enhance their health and fitness curriculum. Katina launched "Get Active!"
a ten-workout fitness video series accessible to more than 1,400
girls participating in the SWSG program across Miami, Boston and Pittsburgh.
Each week, Katina and friends taught a new exercise, dance, cheer,
or active game for children to follow along in the classroom and at home,
which also corresponds with the weekly curriculum at SWSG. In addition to
DVDs being distributed at all SWSG locations in the three
aforementioned cities, the Jason Taylor Foundation uploaded a new video
each week to its website, located at www.jasontaylorfoundation.org as
well as www.facebook.com/jasontaylorfoundation, for the next
ten for children everywhere to learn, enjoy and GET ACTIVE! Videos focused
on a variety of skills and lessons, including the importance of a strong
foundation, good communication, cultural sensitivity, goal setting
and critical thinking.
PART III LINE 4DALL COMMUNITY TEAM
During the 2011 National Football League season, the Jason Taylor
Foundation provided a unique experience for various youth groups each week
the Miami Dolphins hosted a home game. Groups were given 20 tickets,
parking passes and in-stadium beverages and snacks so that they could
enjoy an NFL game in person and watch Jason Taylor, President and Founder
of the Jason Taylor Foundation, perform on the field. For a majority
of the children, this was their first time attending an NFL game.
The experience was also used by various programs as an incentive
for participating children to exhibit good behavior, a positive attitude
and strong participation in school.
