Description	2012 Program Service AccomplishmentsCraig Olson became our new Executive Director in July 2012 following Pam Flynt Tambos retirement.With a generous grant from Assistance League of Santa Barbara, we were able to transition to a computerized, paperless treatment documentation system by purchasing CareTracker i.e. (for Programs) and NTT Solutions i.e. (for Nursing).We held our 9th annual Fundraising event, The Sunset Soiree, at El Mirador Estate in Montecito and raised over $80,000. 175 supporters attended.With a generous grant from Santa Barbara Foundation, we Implemented Silverchair Learning Systems, a new online system to provide state-of-the-art training for all staff.We restructured our Community Plan strategic planning team and are proceeding to develop the Hillside House property. Form 990, Part VI, Line 15b	Form 990, Part VI, Line 15b: Compensation Review and Approval Process for Officers and Key Employees	The bylaws of Hillside House establish an executive committee that has general oversight of the organization's compensation of the salaried employees in key leadership positions within the organization. Specific duties include evaluation of the chief executive of the organization and approval of the compensation of salaried employees in key leadership positions within the organization. The positions reviewed by the compensation committee include the Executive Director, Director of Nursing, Director of Administrative Services, the Director of Development and the Program Director. A competent salary survey is used to benchmark compensation for the key salaried positions within the organization, utilizing health and social service industry statistics and other studies. In reviewing the executive director/administrator position the committee meets independent of the executive director/administrator to discuss performance relative to the position description. During these deliberations, the committee also considers any input obtained from other board members, staff, professional advisors, residents and family members, and other informed community leaders.Once a consensus is reached regarding performance, a similar discussion is held concerning compensation relative to annual benchmark and established objectives.The committee presents its findings and recommendations, in an executive session without the chief executive present, to the full board for review and approval. The committee and/or the board chair (a member of the committee) then meet with the chief executive to discuss and document strengths, weaknesses, and goals for the upcoming year. Compensation for the upcoming year is also discussed and documented.The executive committee will also review and approve or deny the recommended salaries for the exempt (salaried) staff.

Form 990, Part VI, Line 11b	Form 990, Part VI, Line 11b: Form 990 Review Process	Hillside House will complete an audit of Hillside House Financial Records at the conclusion of each business year by a certified auditor. Prior to submission of the organization's Federal and State Form 990 reports the reports will be reviewed by the Hillside House Board of Directors and staff according to the following procedures.1.Complete audit - A draft of the Form 990 Return of Organization Exempt from Income Tax (990) will be completed by the auditor after the conclusion of the audit of Hillside House's (HH) Financial Records for a given year. 2.Internal Review - The Form 990 draft will be reviewed by the HH Auditor, the Director of Administrative Services, the Executive Director, a member of the Board Audit Committee and the Board Treasurer. At that time any questions or concerns can be addressed and corrections made, if warranted, to the draft prior to final approval.3.Board Approval - Once the internal review is completed the final draft of the 990 will be E-mailed or mailed to the entire HH board. The cover letter will state:"Unless the recipient of the e-mail or mail responds to the contrary in the next 5 business days, it will be assumed that the 990 meets with your approval and will be signed and submitted to the IRS by HH staff."4.Questions & Concerns - If questions or concerns about the Form 990 are raised by the HH board they will be addressed by the HH auditor and/or the HH staff, via corrections or explanations. If no consensus can be reached between HH staff and the HH board member's concerns the final dispensation of the matter will go to the HH Executive Committee for final approval or changes. 5.Final Approval - Upon approval HH staff will sign and mail the 990 to the IRS prior to due date.
