Description	THE MUSEUM CONTINUES TO ACHIEVE AND GROW IN LOCAL AND INTERNATIONAL AWARENESS. THE AWARENESS OF AND APPRECIATION FOR THE AREA'S HISTORY AND DIVERSE CULTURES RESULTS IN ANNUAL ADMISSIONS OF APPROXIMATELY 24,000 PEOPLE FROM THIRTY-SEVEN STATES AND THIRTY-FOUR COUNTRIES. THE MUSEUM CONTINUES TO ENCOURAGE PEOPLE OF ALL AGES TO DISCOVER,UNDERSTAND, AND CELEBRATE THE AREA'S HERITAGE AND BOUNDLESS FUTURE. SPECIAL EXHIBITS ARE SHOWCASED THROUGHOUT EACH FISCAL YEAR. THIS FISCAL YEAR SHOWCASED TWO SPECIAL EXHIBITS, THE "STRIKE UP THE BAND", CELEBRATING THE CENTENNIAL OF THE MARCHING BAND PROGRAM AT THE JOLIET TOWNSHIP HIGH SCHOOLS AND "GET YOUR KICKS ON 66", WHICH DETAILED THE HISTORY OF THE FAMOUS U.S. HIGHWAY ROUTE 66, WHICH TRAVERSES DIRECTLY THROUGH JOLIET. THE BAND EXHIBIT WAS SO WELL RECEIVED THAT THE ILLINOIS DEPARTMENT OF NATURAL RESOURCES AWARDED THE MUSEUM A REIMBURSABLE GRANT TOTALING $61,400 IN ORDER TO MAKE THE EXHIBIT A PERMANENT PART OF THE MUSEUM'S GALLERY. ANOTHER SIGNIFICANT GRANT AWARDED TO THE MUSEUM WAS RECEIVED FROM EXXON MOBIL JOLIET REFINERY TOTALING $50,000. THIS GRANT WILL BE USED TO ESTABLISH A EXHIBIT ON THE CONTRIBUTION OF 20TH CENTURY ENERGY AND INDUSTRY, AS WELL AS DOCUMENTING THE REFINERY'S HISTORY AND EFFECT ON EMPLOYMENT IN THE JOLIET AREA. A GRANT WAS ALSO AWARDED TO ASSIST THE MUSEUM WITH ITS OPERATING EXPENSE FROM THE ILLINOIS ARTS COUNCIL TOTALING $9,000. ANOTHER SUCCESSFUL EVENT, "STAR WARS DAY" WAS CO-HOSTED WITH THE JOLIET PULBIC LIBRARY BRINGING IN 3,300 VISITORS TO THE MUSEUM IN A SINGLE-DAY. IN ADDITION, TO THESE NEW EVENTS/EXHIBITS, THE MUSEUM STAYED VERY ACTIVE AND SAW CONTINUED SUCCESS WITH ITS REGULAR SCHEDULE OF POPULAR ACTIVITIES INCLUDING: THE ROOFTOP SUMMER MUSIC SERIES; "A CELTIC EVENING" SPRING EVENT; CRAFT BEER TASTING; RONNIE BAKER BROOKS BLUES CONCERT; HAUNTED MUSEUM AND LIGHT UP THE HOLIDAYS. Pt III Line 4	The Museum's collections are made up of artifacts of historical significance,
	scientific specimens, and art objects that are held for educational, scientific, and curatorial purposes. Each of these items are cataloged, preserved, and cared for, and activities verifying their existence and assessing their condition are performed. The collections are subject to a policy that requires proceeds from their sales to be used to acquire other items for collections. Individuals and organizations, including the City of Joliet also lend many historical treasures to the Museum.
