| Mission | Each and every day, Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD) is working to stop drunk driving from our roads, serving victims of drunk and drugged driving crashes, and protecting youth from the dangers of underage drinking. These are the driving forces behind everything we do. The Campaign to Eliminate Drunk Driving continued to make great progress in 2013. Two states, Tennessee and Maine, passed laws requiring all convicted drunk drivers to use an ignition interlock device. This brought the total to 20 states that require convicted drunk drivers to use an ignition interlock. States with this type of lifesaving legislation, such as Arizona and Oregon, have reduced drunk driving fatalities by 43 and 42 percent respectively. MADD, in a cooperative agreement with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration(NHTSA), executed three Ignition Interlock Institutes in 2013, bringing together professionals from different states and various organizations and agencies who are involved with some | MissionDesc |

| PART X, LINE 2: | MOTHERS AGAINST DRUNK DRIVING (MADD) is exempt from federal income tax under 501(c)(3) of the United States Internal Revenue Code (the "Code"), except to the extent it has unrelated business income. MADD has been determined by the Internal Revenue Service not to be a private foundation within the meaning of Section 509(a) of the Code. For the years ended December 31, 2013 and 2012, MADD had net unrelated business income of approximately $413,000 and $495,000, respectively. Accordingly for the years ended December 31, 2013 and 2012, a provision for federal income tax has been provided in the accompanying statements of activities and changes in net assets and in accrued liabilities in the accompanying statements of financial position of approximately $157,000 and $174,000, respectively. GAAP requires the evaluation of tax positions taken or expected to be taken in the course of preparing MADDs tax returns to determine whether the tax positions are more likely than not of being sustained by the applicable tax authority. Tax positions not deemed to meet the more-likely-than-not threshold would be recorded as a tax benefit or expense in the current year. A reconciliation is not provided herein, as the beginning and ending amounts of unrecognized benefits are zero, with no interim additions, reductions, or settlements. MADD is relying on its tax-exempt status and its adherence to all applicable laws and regulations to preserve that status. However, the conclusions regarding accounting for uncertainty in income taxes will be subject to review and may be adjusted at a later date based on factors including, but not limited to, ongoing analysis of tax laws, regulations, and interpretations thereof. MADD recognizes interest and penalties, if any, related to uncertain tax positions as income tax expense. MADD's informational returns filed are generally subject to examination for three years after the later of the due date or date of filing. As a result, MADD is no longer subject to income tax examinations by tax authorities for years prior to fiscal year 2010. |
