DescNon-Residential Services (NRS) are offered at our Counseling & Education Building and at various sites in the community to adult and child survivors of domestic and sexual violence. We offer two 24-hour hotlines, operating 365 days a year that have knowledgeable advocates providing crisis intervention, information and referrals, hospital accompaniment, and intake for the shelter and counseling programs. The hospital accompaniment program dispatches an advocate to the hospital to provide emotional support and advocacy. Counseling & Advocacy Services provides counseling to adults and child witness/survivors of domestic violence and survivors of sexual violence in individual or group sessions. Supportive counseling helps survivors overcome trauma and understand the violence inflicted upon them. They gain a sense of safety, tools to cope and the knowledge that they are not alone. Housing Services assists clients in achieving housing stability through rental/utility assistance and case management. To encourage success in our own scattered-site transitional housing program, our client advocate provides case management and assists survivors with filing victims' compensation claims, accessing social services and legal advocacy. Children's Court Services provides education, support and witnesses preparation to children who are victims/witnesses to physical or sexual abuse, kidnapping, child pornography, domestic violence and other crimes. The court advocate prepares and educates the family and child and provides court accompaniment. As the child's family is not able to be in the courtroom when the child testifies, our court advocate stays with the child as they face their perpetrator and testify. Research has shown that courtroom accompaniment reduces the trauma of child victims/witnesses when they participate in the criminal justice system. Community Based Counseling provides counselling services in under-served communities. We have targeted outreach efforts for African American, Hispanic, and disable survivors of domestic and/or sexual violence. Community based counseling takes place at health clinics, multi-service centers and social service agencies.Desc

DescOur Violence Prevention and Community Education Program teaches others not just about our services, but about the ways every person can do something to lessen the impact of violence now, and reduce the incidence of it going forward. Through our primary prevention, community outreach, and professional training programs, participants gain knowledge on the root causes of violence, learn about the dynamics of sexual and domestic violence and resources available in the community, ultimately changing their attitudes, beliefs, and behaviors about violence. Our education program focuses on creating partnerships with the community to develop community-based prevention strategies. We provide specific outreach to under-served communities, including African Americans, Hispanics and Youth. Community specialists offer an array of targeted trainings with a primary focus on addressing the root causes of violence. All presentations and outreach services are free of charge. Through our professional training program, we train any and all first responders, including criminal justice, medical, human resources professionals, other service providers, faith leaders, and parents. We developed our own experiential training tool for the community, "Walking the Walk" that has been purchased and used both nationally and internationally. Volunteer services, recruitment, placement and management work closely with the training department to ensure strong coordination between training, direct service programs and volunteers. Direct Services Hot-line & Advocacy Training and Child Care Training create opportunities for individuals to donate time and passion to our agency. Training sessions are offered throughout the year to prepare new staff, interns and volunteers to work on the hot-line, supervise and support child clients, and provide individual support and group counseling. Our communications efforts consist of general public awareness campaigns, updated and accurate educational materials, an ongoing website including a social media presence offering agency news and educational information, and all media relations. We have brochures, fact sheets, and information/referral packets available free of charge to the community.Desc
