Schedule D, Part IV, Line 2b Explanation of escrow agreementThe University holds cash funds for student organizations under an agency relationship. The University reports the gross value of the cash and a related agency liability on the balance sheet. The University operates a museum on behalf of the City of Tampa and reports the net assets of museum operations as an agency liability. The University also holds cash and loans under the Federal Perkins Loan program and the net assets of that program are reported as a liability to the Federal government.
Schedule D, Part V, Line 4 Intended uses of endowment fundsThe endowments are maintained in accordance with donor restrictions. Most of the University's endowments are used for scholarships.
Schedule D, Part X, Line 2 FIN 48 (ASC 740) footnoteThe University is exempt from federal and state income taxes under Section 501(a) as an organization described in Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code of 1986 (IRC), as amended. Boulevard and Kennedy Holdings, North A Street Holdings, and 110 South Boulevard are single member limited liability companies and are treated as disregarded entities for tax purposes. Management does not consider income taxes connected with the University's unrelated business income to be significant. The University believes that it has appropriate support for its tax positions and, as such, does not have any uncertain tax positions that could result in a material impact to the consolidated financial statements.

Utilizing the results of this review, the President informs the compensation committee on compensation adjustments. This review has taken place each fall at the annual Board Officers retreat in the past; however, the timing of this process has been adjusted with the transition to the new University President. This process took place in October 2023 and next occurred in July 2025; therefore, this question has been answered "no" in accordance with the IRS instructions to the Form 990, as the timing of such reviews fell outside of tax year 2024. This process will resume its annual occurrence going forward.
Form 990, Part VI, Line 1a Delegate broad authority to a committeeThe executive committee of the board may act on behalf of the governing body in the instance where emergency action is required. In addition, the executive committee will have general responsibility on behalf of the full board of trustees to review the annual form 990 and related governance issues. Prior to each meeting, a public disclosure copy was placed on the electronic board document portal for review. After approval on January 22, 2026, a public disclosure copy was placed on the electronic board document portal which is our standard method of distributing data to all board members prior to filing.
Form 990, Part VI, Line 12c Conflict of interest policyConflict of interest surveys are requested each year from every member of the Board of Trustees, all officers, key employees, and highest compensated employees, and significant contributors. The survey results are reviewed by the VP of Administration and Finance and Assistant VP of Financial management. Responses are compiled to produce an official record for the institution that is housed in the Office of Administration and Finance. This record is reviewed by the President, the Treasurer, and the Assistant VP of Financial Management to ascertain perceived conflicts of interest and determine action steps, if any. If there are any conflicts of interest, the board member with the conflict will abstain from voting on issues related to the conflict of interest. All reportable conflicts are properly disclosed in Form 990 as required.
Form 990, Part VI, Line 15a Process to establish compensation of top management officialWith the retirement of its longtime President, the University engaged an independent consultant and utilized comparability data to determine the starting compensation of his successor. Her starting compensation was then approved by the University's Board of Trustees. This process was documented via a letter to the President, which is retained in the University's files, and took place leading up to her appointment in 2024. Compensation of the University's new President was again reviewed in July 2025, approximately one year after her presidency began. This review was performed by the Compensation Committee which is comprised of the officers of the Board of Trustees, all of whom are also independent members of the Board of Trustees. This process was documented in a note to the files of the University's Administration and Finance Department.
