With the rising cost of food and fuel, coupled with the declining economy, this program is becoming increasingly important. in the last few months, the number of neighborhood food distributions has in creased over 600%. in the addition to daytime distributions, we taylor their efforts to reach working people by distributing food in the evenings and weekends. Nutrition Education:FASD provides nutrition education materials to our partner agencies, schools, on the Mobile Pantry and at Community Food Distributions. Farm2Kids program reaches 4,072 every month. The program introduces children to new produce. Program provides 15 additional servings of fruits and vegetables each week to each child.Soup for Supper Program: This new program is focused on providing nutrition to middle and high school aged students. To reach students without recreating the stigma that goes with poverty, FASD provides cans of hearty soup to easily accessible school offices. Students stop at these offices, grab a can or several, put them in their backpack and get on their way. OTHER PROGRAM SERVICES 5: Backpack Program:The BackPack program provides school children with food over the weekend when they do not have access to school-based free lunch and breakfast programs. Each Friday 1,900 students are given a brown-bag with nutritious and child-friendly food for over the weekend. OTHER PROGRAM SERVICES 6: Mobile Pantry - Feeding San Diego one mile at a timeThe new mobile pantry program delivers fresh produce, bread, dairy products, and other food and grocery items directly to those who need it most. Emphasis is placed on serving rural communities and filling service gaps created by limited accessibility to wholesome food. Given that 62% of the households served through FASD's have at least one employed adult, it is essential we create distribution systems that operate during the evening and on weekends thus, limiting the need to choose between going to work and getting food. Nutrition Education:FASD provides nutrition education materials to our partner agencies, schools, on the Mobile Pantry and at Community Food Distributions. The Nutrition Education library provides educational materials to our partner agencies through our online ordering system. |
