| PROGRAM SERVICE ACCOMPLISHMENTS | PART III, LINE 4A | TRADE AND GLOBAL GOVERNANCE- In 2010, IATP focused on promoting international food reserves, advocating for regulation of commodity markets, and responding to the global food and climate crises. With offices in Minneapolis, Washington, DC, Geneva and Beijing, IATP convened and participated in several conferences and meetings, including hosting workshops and side events at the international climate talks in Cancun, as well as the meetings leading up to Cancun in Bonn and Tianjin. We also hosted three international meetings on new trade rules for agriculture in Geneva, a 100-person seminar on food reserves in Brussels, and a 200-person conference in Beijing on sustainable food systems, in conjunction with the People's University of the Institute for Social Sciences. | PROGRAM SERVICE ACCOMPLISHMENTS | PART III, LINE 4B | IATP FOOD AND SOCIETY FELLOWS PROGRAM- The IATP Food and Community Fellows program provides fellowships to professionals in food, agriculture and justice from across the United States, enabling them to use media, advocacy and policy initiatives to inform and shape the public agenda. The goal of the program is to create sustainable food systems that promote good health, vibrant communities, environmental stewardship, worker justice and accessibility for all. Fellows come from many disciplines-chefs, farmers, nutritionists, activists, public health professionals, fishers, policy experts and academics. In 2010 the program had nine fellows and started the process of recruiting applicants for the 2011 class of fellows. The program also increased the participation of its 63 alumni by inviting the alumni to participate in online trainings and in-person gatherings. The fellows worked on a wide range of issues from a campaign for fair wages for farm workers in Florida to healthier school lunches to facilitating better financing opportunities for sustainable food businesses. The program provided workshops for fellows, and hosted gatherings on sustainable food for policymakers, foundation staff, journalists and others. Fellows were provided with professional communications support that assisted them with their outreach efforts. | PROGRAM SERVICE ACCOMPLISHMENTS | PART III, LINE 4C | FOOD AND HEALTH- In 2010, IATP's Food and Health program focused on public policy reform in the arenas of creating a healthier food and agriculture system, reducing toxins, and promoting green chemistry. Through Health Care without Harm, IATP played a leadership role in leveraging health care's purchasing power to drive sustainability in the food economy. Through its Healthy Legacy project, IATP educated consumers about chemicals in food and consumer products, and advocated for healthier policy solutions. With our business and government partners, we worked to provide stronger leadership on green chemistry in Minnesota. Publications included: The war on antibiotics; Challenging the Obesity System; and Toxic chemicals are costing us-and we're paying with our health. |
