Description	YOUTH DEVELOPMENT-----------------Our YMCA is committed to nurturing the potential of every child and teen. We believe that all kids deserve the opportunity to discover who they are and what they can achieve.For this reason, we help young people cultivate the values, skills, and relationships that lead to positive behaviors, better health and educational achievement. Our YMCA programs, such as Youth & Government, Model United Nations, Jr. High EFEX, Dragon Swim Team, Competitive Gymnastics, Child Watch, pre-school and school age child care, afterschool arts and sports, Y-Winners Sports, swim lessons, summer day and overnight camp, offer a range of experiences that enrich cognitive, social, physical, and emotional growth. Expenses include subsidies and direct financial assistance that make participation possible for the young people we engage.	Description

We bring families closer together, encourage good health, foster connections through fitness, sports, fun, and shared interests. As a result 24,000 people in our community are receiving the support, guidance, and resources they need to achieve greater health in spirit, mind, and body. This is particularly important as our nation struggles with an obesity crisis, families struggle with work and life balance, and individuals search for personal fulfillment. Our programs are accessible, affordable, and open to all faiths, backgrounds, abilities, and income levels. In 2010, we provided $334,000 in financial assistance to people who otherwise would have faced economic barriers to participation.	Description

With a focus on youth development, healthy living and social responsibility, the Y sponsored the following community programs in 2010, the Annual Community Support Campaign, Good Friday Service, Y Tribes Community Pancake Breakfast, the Fiesta Days 5 & 10 K Run and Hike, Summer Day and Overnight Camp, the Christmas Tree Lot (which supports teen leadership programs) and the Verdugo Hills Community Winter Carnival.
