The process was last completed in May 2010. For other staff members, Pew Research engages an independent compensation consulting firm every three years to conduct a comprehensive study of the market for every Pew Research position below the senior executive level. Compensation for Pew Research staff is based on the results of that study, which is used to create a system of salary ranges for Pew Research based on the marketplace. In the years between comprehensive studies, Pew Research salary ranges are adjusted annually for movement in the marketplace. Pew Research Center's independent compensation consultant annually prepares a memorandum for the Board that describes overall marketplace movement and recommends a market-based amount for adjusting Pew Research's salary ranges. Individual salaries are also adjusted based on individual performance. Individual adjustments are made by the president, officers and key employees, who rely on the annual and triennial compensation reports when determining compensation for employees of Pew Research.
