| Description | Conferences, Workshops and SeminarsIN 2009-2010, A COMMUNITY OF APPROXIMATELY 300 COMMITTEE AND FACULTY MEMBERS OR PRESENTERS ALONG WITH ASSOCIATION STAFF PARTICIPATED IN THE PROCESS OF DESIGNING AND DELIVERING PROGRAMS TO MORE THAN 2500 REGISTRANTS. THE NACUBO ANNUAL MEETING IS THE MOST IMPORTANT PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT EVENT OF THE YEAR FOR COLLEGE AND UNIVERSITY BUSINESS OFFICERS AND THEIR STAFF. APPROXIMATELY 1350 PAID REGISTRANTS ATTENDED THE CONFERENCE, HELD IN BOSTON, MA FOR 2010 FISCAL YEAR. SESSION TOPICS INCLUDED PROGRAM SERVICE ACCOMPLISHMENTS, ACCOUNTING, FINANCIAL ADMINISTRATION, AUXILIARY ENTERPRISES, CHANGE MANAGEMENT, DISTANCE EDUCATION, TAXATION, AND MANY OTHER TECHNICAL, MANAGERIAL, AND LEADERSHIP ISSUES.NACUBO PRESENTED 15 WEB CASTS FROM THE ASSOCIATION'S STUDIO DURING THE YEAR. MORE THAN 2000 SITES WERE REGISTERED. THE WEB CASTS COVERED "HOT TOPICS" IN HIGHER EDUCATION BUSINESS AND ADMINISTRATION. THIS DEPARTMENT ADMINISTERS A CONTINUING PROFESSIONAL EDUCATION (CPE) CREDIT PROGRAM FOR CERTIFIED PUBLIC ACCOUNTANTS. NACUBO IS REGISTERED WITH THE NATIONAL ASSOCIATION OF STATE BOARDS OF ACCOUNTANCY (NASBA) AS A SPONSOR OF CONTINUING PROFESSIONAL EDUCATION ON THE NATIONAL REGISTRY OF CPE SPONSORS. | Effective June 1, 2009, NACUBO adopted the authoritative guidance relating to accounting for uncertainty in income taxes included in FASB ASC Topic 740, Income Taxes. These provisons provide consistent guidance for the accounting for uncertainty in income taxes recognized in an entity's financial statements and prescribe a threshold of "more likely than not" for recognition and derecognition of tax postions taken or expected to be taken in a tax return. NACUBO performed an evaluation of uncertain tax positions for the year ended May 31, 2010, and determined that there were no matters that would require recognition in the financial statements or which may have any affect on its tax-exempt status. For the year ended May 31, 2010, the statute of limitations for tax years 2006 thorugh 2008 remains open with the U.S. federal jurisdiction or the various states and local jurisdictions in which NACUBO files tax returns. It is NACUBO's policy to recognize interest and/or penalties related to uncertain tax positions, if any, in income tax expense. |
