| Explanation | Effective July 1, 2009 the Institute adopted a policy that clarifies the accounting for uncertainty in income taxes recognized in an entity's financial statements. The policy prescribes a recognition threshold and measurement principles for the financial statement recognition and measurement of tax positions taken or expected to be taken on an income tax return that are not certain to be realized. The implementation of this policy had no impact on the Institute's financial statements. The income tax positions taken by the Institute for any years open under the various statutes of limitations are that the Institute continues to be exempt from income taxes and the Institute has properly reported unrelated business income that is subject to income taxes. The Institute believes that there are no tax positions taken or expected to be taken that would significantly increase unrecognized tax benefits within 12 months of the reporting date. None of the Institute's federal income tax returns are currently under examination. However, fiscal years 2008 and later remain subject to examination by the IRS and state authorities. | Explanation |
