| Description | Exhibitions: From extensive collection of Western art and artifacts to the Southwest Museum of the American Indian Collection, the Autry galleries tell the amazing stories of the American West. The Opportunity Gallery explores the turbulent period between 1820 and 1860 when thousands of migrants moved to the West in search of a better life. The Community Gallery interprets the West through the lens of the racial ethnic and religious communities important to Western development between 1885 and 1895. The Cowboy Gallery details the evolution of the cowboy from the open-range era on the Texas grassland through the modern ranching period of the late twentieth century. The history of the Western genre is explored in the Imagination Gallery. The Romance Gallery prominently features Western art from the early twentieth century. The Colt Revolver in the American West, an exhibion in the Greg Martin Colt gallery, explores the history of Samuel Colt's revolutionary revolver in the American West. Other temporary exhibitions in 2011 included Art Along the Hyphin: The Mexican-American Generation, Skydreamers, Masters of the American West Fine Art Exhibition and Sale, Siqueiros in Los Angeles and The Art of Native American Basketry. | Description |

| Description | In 2011, museum teachers and docents toured over 40,000 students through the museum - approximately one-third of students came through the All Aboard Bus Program. This program provides free bus transportation and family memberships to underserved students in the Los Angeles area. The education department offers 20 different museum teacher programs exploring different aspects of life in the west through the Autry's art and artifacts, and meeting California state content standards in history/social science for kindergarten through 12th grade. Six new teacher programs were developed for the 2010-11 school year on subjects as diverse as animals of the west (for kindergarten through 2nd grade), California's first peoples (for 2nd through 6th grades) and even the poetic west (for 7th through 12th grades), offering our older students a deeper understanding of the story of the west by exploring The Autry's objects and artifacts through native American poetry, novel excerpts and cowboy songs. We continue our partnership with the Arroyo Seco Museum science magnet school to offer living history: La Casa de Adobe program, the only program of its kind in the country, where middle school students take charge of and teach a living history presentation to visiting school groups. | Description |

| Part III, Line 1a: | The Autry collection is comprised of works of art (paintings, sculptures, works on paper, and photographs), historic artifacts, archaeological and ethnographic materials, sound recording, films, and library and research material related to the history of the West and indigenous cultures of the United States. The collection items, which are acquired through purchases and contributions, are not recognized as assets on the statement of financial position. All are held for educational, research, and display purposes. The Autry's policy is that all items are cataloged, preserved, and cared for according to the American Association of museum's standards. Activities verifying their existence and assessing their condition are performed continuously. Proceeds from deaccessions or insurance recoveries are reflected as increases in the appropriate net asset classes. The collections are subject to a policy that requires proceeds from their sales to be used to acquire or conserve other items for collections, not for operations. | |
| Part V, Line 4: | The Autry's endowment fund comprises of board-designated endowments, or quasi-endowments and permanent (true) endowments. The board designated endowments were established by the Organization itself from unrestricted donor funds. The Organization's management imposed temporary restrictions on the use of these funds. Permanent endowments were established by donor-restricted gifts and are maintained to provide a permanent source of income, with the stipulation that principal must be invested and kept intact in perpetuity, while only the income generated can be used by the organization.
