THE FLEXIBILITY OF PART-TIME ATTENDANCE ALLOWS WORKING WOMEN AND THOSE WITH OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES OR LIMITATIONS THE ABILITY TO PURSUE THEIR GOALS OF COMPLETING THEIR EDUCATION. ALL OF THE ADULT EDUCATION PROGRAMS AT MERCY LEARNING CENTER ARE AIMED AT INCREASING WOMEN'S EDUCATIONAL FUNCTIONING LEVELS SO THAT THEY MAY BECOME MORE PRODUCTIVE MEMBERS OF THE WORKFORCE AND THE COMMUNITY. STUDENTS WHO ENTER THIS PROGRAM RANGE FROM THE NON-READER TO THOSE PREPARING FOR THE GED EXAM. IN 2011-2012, 501 WOMEN WHO HAILED FROM 51 COUNTRIES PARTICIPATED IN THIS PROGRAM, 98% OF WHOM WERE LIVING AT OR BELOW THE FEDERAL POVERTY GUIDELINES. THESE STUDENTS RECEIVED INSTRUCTION ON A ONE-ON-ONE BASIS OR SMALL GROUP SETTING OR PARTICIPATED IN ONE OF THE TWO PART TIME BEGINNER ENGLISH AS A SECOND LANGUAGE (ESL) CLASSES. | Description |

PERIODIC ENRICHMENT WORKSHOPS/GUEST SPEAKERS OFFER STUDENTS THE OPPORTUNITY TO EXPAND THEIR HORIZONS AND ENHANCE THEIR TALENTS. MERCY LEARNING CENTER IS OPEN YEAR ROUND, WITH EXCEPTION OF THE FIRST TWO WEEKS OF JULY. THE FULL-TIME INTENSIVE STUDY PROGRAM OPERATES FROM SEPTEMBER TO JUNE, IN AN EFFORT TO REDUCE CONFLICTS FOR MOTHERS WHO HAVE SCHOOL AGED CHILDREN IN PUBLIC SCHOOLS.
