| Description | All services embrace the purpose, vision and mission of ACMHS. Purpose: Consumer-Driven Behavioral Healthcare ServicesVision: Wellness For EveryoneMission: Promote recovery and wellness by providing consumer-driven behavioral healthcare services. ACMHS specializes in serving children and youth impacted by severe emotional disturbance, adults with serious mentally illness and persons with Alzheimer's and related dementia. In doing this, ACMHS serves a wide age range. During the past year the range was 2-103. Services are designed to help children and adults be safe, secure and successful in the community. Being safe, secure and successful in the community means different things depending on the age group. For young children, it means having a safe home with adequate food, clothes, heat, health care and not being subjected to neglect or abuse. This normally results in children being able to find a day care provider, be enrolled in kindergarten or enter the first grade. Youth have similar needs and demonstrate success by advancing in school and being engaged in meaningful activities like sports, hunting, fishing or hobbies. For adults, safe, affordable and accommodating housing is important as well as access to healthcare and having meaningful activity. For adults this may be furthering one's education, volunteering and having employment. For seniors and others impacted by Alzheimer's or related dementia, it means assisting them to live in the community as long as possible through access to a day care. The day care allows family to continue to work if that be the case or simply to have a respite from providing care. For FY 2011, 486 children and youth were served through Family and Children's Services and the Alaska Child Trauma Center at ACMHS. Over 80% of these children and youth had experienced complex trauma. Over 90% reported improvement in life domains (school; community; family). Most were in two or more. Adult services served over 1,700. Over 200 were assisted with housing. One program, The Bridge Home, had a 95% reduction in jail and psychiatric hospitalization days for the year. Day Break, the Alzheimer's day care, provided over 30,000 hours of adult day care services for the year. Day Break also began a project to double the size of the facility in order to meet the increasing demand for services. Speaking of the future, ACMHS will be developing and expanding services for young children and their families; expanding trauma treatment services; adding addictions treatment services; adding housing resources; linking with primary care as well as expanding adult day services for persons impacted by Alzheimer's disease or related dementiaAnchorage Community Mental Health Services (ACMHS) has provided services to seniors since 1982 through the Day Break Adult Day Services program. The mission of Day Break is to provide an adult day program for individuals with Alzheimer's Disease and Related Dementias (ADRD) and to allow for the individual and their caregivers to maintain their choices in their community and to age in place. The purpose is to provide adult day services in a safe, secure, stimulating and nurturing environment for its members while supporting the caregivers. Day Break utilizes the best practices for individuals with ADRD by using person centered care as the focus for all therapeutic activities. The program is a social model that provides therapeutic activities that focus on physical, cognitive and social stimulation to assist members to have purposeful and meaningful days. | Description |
