REPLACING OIL WITH A SUSTAINABLE LOCAL RESOURCE RETAINS DOLLARS IN THE LOCAL ECEONOMY AND SUPPORTS FOREST-BASED JOBS. ECOSYSTEM SERVICES: PROJECTS CONNECT RESORTS, CONFERENCE CENTERS AND OTHER VOLUNTARY BUYERS OF CARBON WITH OFFSETS GENERATED FROM SUSTAINABLE FOREST MANAGEMENT. NEW INCOME STREAMS FROM CARBON AND WATERSHED SERVICES HELP LANDOWNERS MAINTAIN THEIR FORESTS AS FORESTS. TOURISM: THE CENTER COORDINATES THE MAINE WOODS CONSORTIUM TO PROVIDE TRAINING AND CUSTOM ITINERARY DEVELOPMENT AND CO-LEADS THE NORTHERN FOREST TOURISM NETWORK, WHICH ADDRESSES MULTI-STATE PRODUCT DEVELOPMENT AND REGIONAL BRANDING. ENHANCED SUCCESS OF TOURISM-BASED BUSINESSES WILL LEAD TO BETTER EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITIES IN THE INDUSTRY.
