DescriptionSiena College is a coeducational, independent, liberal arts college with a Franciscan and Catholic tradition. Founded in 1937 by seven Franciscan friars, it is located in Loudonville, New York, a suburban community just outside the state's capital. Siena is registered by the Board of Regents of the University of the State of New York. All programs are accredited by the Middle States Commission on Higher Education, and the School of Business is accredited by the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business. In addition, the Chemistry program is certified by the American Chemical Society, the Social Work program is certified by the Council on Social Work Education, and the Education programs are accredited by the National Council for the Accreditation of Teacher Education. Siena's 3,272 undergraduates enroll in one of three schools - Liberal Arts, Science, and Business - and may choose to pursue study from a total of 27 departments, 47 minors and certificate programs, and professional curricula in Secondary Education, Pre-Law, and Social Work. 32 graduates have enrolled in the new Masters in Accounting program. On average, 150 students study abroad in a given year. Ninety-six percent of Siena students enter graduate school or find employment immediately following graduation. Admission to the College is competitive. Of the 769 incoming members of the Class of 2014, 24 percent graduated in the top ten percent of their high school class and their average SAT score was 1140. Siena's freshman retention rate for the class entering in the fall of 2010 was 85 percent.Description

Description of Art CollectionPart III, Question 1aSiena's Fine Art Collections encompass a broad range of periods and styles, with fine paintings, works on paper, sculpture, and artifacts. Original works from historic and contemporary artists are displayed throughout the campus. Among these are several pieces of the Hudson River School, quality 19th century copies of Renaissance religious paintings, and a diverse body of work recently acquired from local contemporary artists. THE COLLECTION ORIGINATED IN THE LATE 1950's LARGELY THROUGH THE INTEREST OF FINANCIER PIERRE BRETEY, WHO DONATED A SUBSTANTIAL NUMBER OF WORKS FROM HIS PRIVATE COLLECTION. AN INVESTMENT ADVISOR IN RAILROAD SECURITIES, HE BEGAN COLLECTING DURING THE DEPRESSION. FATHER MAURUS A. KENNEDY O.F.M., TREASURER OF SIENA COLLEGE FROM 1957 - 1965, MET MR. BRETEY WHILE STUDYING AT NEW YORK UNIVERSITY, AND GENERATED HIS INTEREST IN SIENA. NOTING THAT "AT THE TIME, SIENA HAD NOTHING IN THE WAY OF ART," BRETEY COMMENCED A DONATION OF ART THAT SPANNED MANY YEARS, FROM 1957 THROUGH 1974. THROUGH HIS GENEROSITY, THE COLLEGE ACQUIRED WORKS BY INNESS, RITTER, EUROPEAN RELIGIOUS PAINTINGS AND LANDSCAPES AS WELL AS MANY EXAMPLES OF FINE FURNITURE AND DECORATIVE ARTS. OTHER MAJOR DONORS TO THE COLLECTION INCLUDE JOSEPH TESSITORE, AN ALUMNUS OF SIENA WITH INTEREST IN COLLECTING ORIGINAL PRINTS, PARTICULARLY THOSE OF LEROY NEIMAN. HIS CONTRIBUTION TO THE COLLECTION INCLUDES OVER 50 ORIGINAL, SIGNED SERIGRAPHS, AS WELL AS SEVERAL ORIGINAL OIL PAINTINGS AND ETCHINGS FROM HIS ESTATE. A NUMBER OF WORKS BY MICHAEL AND JASPER SANFRATELLO, BROTHERS OF FR. SENNEN SANFRATELLO O.F.M., HAVE BEEN ADDED TO THE COLLECTIONS THROUGH FAMILY DONATION, AND SEVERAL WORKS BY THE LATE FR. FELTON ROBERTSON O.F.M., DONATED BY THE ARTIST, ALSO FEATURE PROMINENTLY IN SIENA'S HOLDINGS. THE CONSTRUCTION OF THE STANDISH LIBRARY IN 1999 LED TO THE ACQUISITION OF 23 WORKS BY LOCAL CONTEMPORARY ARTISTS AND THE INSTALLATION OF A MURAL ON THE SECOND FLOOR LANDING. ON DISPLAY THROUGHOUT THE LIBRARY, THESE PIECES INCLUDE PAINTINGS, WORKS ON PAPER, PRINTS, PHOTOGRAPHS, AND SCULPTURE. THE COLLEGE CONTINUES TO ADD TO ITS COLLECTIONS, BOTH THROUGH DONATION AND PURCHASE OF ART. RECENT ACQUISITIONS INCLUDE THE PAINTING "MOMENT OF DEATH" BY IRANIAN ARTIST KAYVAN ASGARI, A GROUP OF ORIGINAL SIGNED PRINTS, AND TWO WORKS BY FR. MIGUEL LOREDO O.F.M., "CRISTAL VERDE" AND "RED PARADISE." BEGINNING WITH THE SPRING 2007 SEMESTER, THE COLLEGE WILL ALSO BEGIN A PROGRAM IN THE ACQUISITION OF EXEMPLARY STUDENT WORK THROUGH THE CREATIVE ARTS DEPARTMENT. AS PART OF SIENA'S FINE ARTS COLLECTIONS, THE FAMLI COLLECTION WILL FEATURE PROMINENTLY AROUND THE CAMPUS, ON EXHIBIT IN PUBLIC SPACES, CORRIDORS AND THE STANDISH LIBRARY. WORKS WILL BE ROTATED IN AND OUT OF STORAGE PERIODICALLY TO ALLOW FOR GREATER ACCESS TO THE EXTENT OF THE COLLECTION. THE ART WILL ALSO BE MADE ACCESSIBLE FOR STUDY BY BOTH FACULTY AND STUDENTS THROUGH THE CURATOR OF FINE ARTS.
Description of Exempt purpose of Act CollectionPart III, line 4Siena's Fine Arts Collections are featured prominently around the campus, on exhibit in public spaces, corridors, and the Standish Library. Works are rotated in and out of storage periodically to allow for greater access to the extent of the Collection. As part of the college's exempt purpose the art is also made accessible for study by both faculty and students through the Curator of Fine Arts.
Description of Endowment FundsPart V, Question 4Endowed funds are intended primarily to provide for scholarships for student study. Other endowed funds are maintained for support in academic programs, buildings, and athletics.

PART I, LINE 1 AND PART III, LINE 1Siena College is a learning community advancing the ideals of a liberal arts education, rooted in its identity as a Franciscan and catholic institution. As a learning community, Siena is committed to a student-centered education emphasizing dynamic faculty-student interaction. Through a blending of liberal arts and professional education, Siena College provides experiences and courses of study instilling the values and knowledge to lead a compassionate, reflective, and productive life of service and leadership. As a liberal arts college, Siena fosters the rigorous intellectual development of its students through a healthy exchange of ideas both inside and outside the classroom. It provides opportunities to develop critical and creative thinking; to make reasoned and informed judgments; to appreciate cultural diversity; to deepen aesthetic sensibility and to enhance written and oral communication skills. It develops in each individual an appreciation for the richness of exploring knowledge from a variety of perspectives and disciplines. As a Franciscan community, Siena strives to embody the vision and values of St. Francis of Assisi: faith in a personal and provident God, reverence for all creation, affirmation of the unique worth of each person, delight in diversity, appreciation for beauty, service with the poor and marginalized, a community where members work together in friendship and respect, and commitment to building a world that is more just, peaceable, and humane. As a Catholic college, Siena seeks to advance not only the intellectual growth of its students, but their spiritual, religious and ethical formation as well. To this end, Siena is composed of and in dialogue with people from difference religious and cultural traditions; fosters a critical appreciation of the Catholic intellectual heritage in conversation with contemporary experience; provides ample opportunities for worship and service; explores the moral dimensions of decision-making in business and the professions; and affirms the dignity of the individual while pursuing the common good.
