Form990 Schedule J Part III Form990ScheduleJPartIII (2 entries)

Return ReferenceReturnReferenceExplanationExplanation
Part I, Line 1aSpouse travel that meets specific guidelines is reimbursed and included in taxable income. A limited gross up is provided for those payments. Discretionary spending accounts are extended to executive officers.
Part I, Lines 4a-ba) Severance Payments Mark Theisen $471,657. b) The Woodmen of the World Non-Qualified Supplemental Plan ("Plan") was established on May 19, 1986 for the purpose of providing a nonqualified retirement benefit to eligible employees and field representatives. This plan complies with the requirements of section 409A of the Internal Revenue Code and Regulations promulgated thereunder. The referenced benefit under this plan is calculated based on the normal or early retirement benefit that would have been payable to an eligible employee or field representative on the day that employee or field representative completed a year of service as an active participant of Woodmen of the World's qualified plan and continued to be an active participant of the qualified plan until the eligible employee's or field representative's benefit payout under the plan per the plan requirements and conditions. In 2012, Woodmen made benefit payments to Joseph Walters in the amount of $521,342, William Owen in the amount of $607,441, Steven Haack in the amount of $264,516, and Joseph Hromadka in the amount of $104,446 per the plan requirements and conditions of the plan. These payments were not included in Part II Schedule J as the reporting requirements under this schedule were not in place for all prior years years that the eligible employee or field representative accrued deferred compensation under this plan. Since there were no such reporting requirements under the Form 990 for prior years, including such payment in Part II Schedule J would create a misleading report since it would not accurately disclose that most of the deferred compensation had actually accrued in prior years.
