From collection points at stores and Attended Donation Stations, goods need to be sorted, priced, and displayed. Work training opportunities abound in our training centers allowing ample opportunity for people with significant disabilities or disadvantages to move into the work force. Strict quality standards guide the selection of items not suitable for sale in the retail stores. Goodwill strives to recycle donated items not suitable for sale in the retail stores. | Description | Workforce Development Training Centers - employed 383 people (89.8% disabled or disadvantaged). Over ninety percent of revenues are returned to jobs and job training programs for people who have disabilities or disadvantages. Workforce serviced an unduplicated 8,638 individuals. Programs range from custodial skills training, maintenance skills training, culinary and barista training, computer training for people with disabilities, English as a second language classes, online training in office and computer skills, and training on job search skills and work behavior. Placement (1,902 job placements provided) includes supported employment for people with developmental disabilities; employment placement programs include people with disabilities as well as people entering the workforce with other barriers such as welfare history and lack of work skills or behavior. With large and growing youth programs, Tacoma Goodwill Industries helped approximately 2997 youth ages 16-21 complete their education, set goals, and gain work experience. | Description |

| Grantmaker's Description of How Grants are Used | A Goodwill Heritage Foundation (GHF) annual budget is prepared and approved by the Goodwill Heritage Foundation Board of Directors. Tacoma Goodwill Industries (TGI) provides a grant to the Foundation for operations, so that all funds raised by GHF go directly to TGI programs and scholarships.Tacoma Goodwill Industries (TGI) receives restricted grants for programs at TGI and for scholarship gifts for clients that are disadvantaged and yet not eligible for government supported programs. Annually TGI reviews the funding available for scholarships and the nature and types that are provided. When the funding available is determined, case workers assess the assistance needs of program clients and submit a request for scholarship support which is approved or denied by the program manager. The use of funds is reported to the TGI Board at the end of the fiscal year.For Subrecipient grants: Grants are prepared, reviewed, submitted, and signed by the subrecipient grantee and Tacoma Goodwill Industries. The grant discloses the requirements of the grant. Billings for allowable expenses are submitted monthly by the subrecipient grantee. The billings are reviewed for qualification. Allowable expenses are paid to the subrecipient grantee. The total grant distributions are monitored on a monthly basis. Site visits by Tacoma Goodwill Industries are performed in order to audit program and fiscal adherence. |
| Additional Supplemental Information | Tacoma Goodwill Industries supports Goodwill Heritage Foundation by paying all of the Foundation's operating expenses. The primary purpose of Goodwill Heritage Foundation is to raise funds for Tacoma Goodwill Industries in support of its mission of helping people with disabilities and disadvantages go to work.Subrecipients provide additional program activity support to Tacoma Goodwill Industries.
