| Description | FEDERAL, FIELD & LEGAL ADVOCACY: IT WAS A MOMENTOUS YEAR FOR MARRIAGE EQUALITY ACROSS THE UNITED STATES AND HRC PLAYED A PIVOTAL ROLE IN EACH EFFORT. ON ELECTION DAY 2012, VOTERS SUPPORTED OR DEFENDED MARRIAGE EQUALITY LEGISLATION IN MAINE, MARYLAND AND WASHINGTON STATE AND VOTERS IN MINNESOTA DEFEATED A PROPOSED CONSTITUTIONAL BAN ON MARRIAGE EQUALITY. AFTER ELECTION DAY, THE FIGHT FOR MARRIAGE EQUALITY MOVED TO STATE HOUSES AND HRC WAS ON THE GROUND FIGHTING FOR MARRIAGE EQUALITY IN HAWAII, DELAWARE, RHODE ISLAND, MINNESOTA AND ILLINOIS. HRC BROUGHT CASH CONTRIBUTIONS, FIELD ORGANIZERS, GRASSROOTS MOBILIZATION, PHONE BANKING, AND OUTREACH TO RELIGIOUS LEADERS AND FAITH COMMUNITIES TO THE MARRIAGE EQUALITY FIGHT. HRC AND HRC'S BALLOT MEASURE PACS CONTRIBUTED NEARLY $3.6 MILLION IN CASH TO STATE LEVEL ORGANIZATIONS AND BALLOT MEASURE COMMITTEES TO SUPPORT MARRIAGE EQUALITY EFFORTS THIS YEAR. OTHER 2012 ELECTION PRIORITIES INCLUDED THE RE-ELECTION OF PRESIDENT OBAMA, THE ELECTION OF TAMMY BALDWIN TO THE U.S. SENATE, AND THE RETENTION OF IOWA SUPREME COURT JUDGE DAVID WIGGINS. HRC SUPPORTED STATE AND LOCAL EFFORTS IN UTAH, WEST VIRGINIA, FLORIDA AND TEXAS TO WIN ENACT NON-DISCRIMINATION LAWS AND ORDINANCES.
