SCC educates children and adults, provides safe water, fosters entrepreneurship, and educates the broader community on health, hygiene, disease prevention, food cultivation, positive parenting practices, and environmental stewardship.Since 2004, Socially Conscious Coffee has:- Built critical infrastructure by constructing the Centro Rural Educaf, a 9,149 square foot school and community center on a coffee farm in Encruzilhada, Bahia, Brazil.- Provided safe drinking water to more than 150 people.- Provided more than 139,800 meals. - Provided education to more than 100 children and adults.- Arranged for dental care to more than 60 children.- Arranged for medical care for Educaf children as needed, including life-changing surgeries for 2 children.- Educated more than 840 people on health and hygiene practices, disease prevention, and water and food safety, and environmental stewardship.- Developed a plan in cooperation with local leaders to train teachers for 15 more schools and bring meaningful education to 12,000 children in Encruzilhada, Bahia, Brazil (plan has been approved for funding from The Rotary Foundation and will begin in 2nd half of 2012)-Provided entrepreneurial training and programs to local women and access to marketsMeals and Health Programs help meet the essential basic needs necessary for learning Children's Education provides children with the foundation they need to learn and succeed in lifeElementary and adult education empowers members of the community with the skills and knowledge needed to make informed decisions about their well-being, livelihood, and health. Environmental sustainability projects are focused on both protecting and restoring the natural systems and resources of the region. Protecting Brazil's natural environment is essential to local populations whose livelihoods depend on it, and is vital to the global systems on which all of us depend. SCC's programs include a local food garden and on-going community environmental education, including community food gardens, which improve food security for local people. Economic development initiatives encompass support for local businesses, development of entrepreneurial talent, and the creation of diverse sources of economic opportunity. We provide entrepreneurial training to women and access to markets. We support small local businesses that produce and supply clothing, food, construction services, repairs, art, handicrafts, furniture, books, and more. Apprenticeship programs teach local people to meet the needs of their community and increase their family incomes.DescriptionProgramServiceAccom
