| Part X | Part X : FIN48 Footnote | The University is exempt from federal and state tax on related sources of income under the Internal Revenue Code Section 501(c)(3) and Section 23701(d) of the California Revenue and Taxation Code. In addition, the University may be subject to tax on unrelated business income, if any, generated by its investments.The University follows the guidance of the Financial Accounting Standards Board (FASB) ASC Topic 740 for accounting for uncertainty in income taxes. As of June 30, 2013, management evaluated the University's tax positions and concluded that the University had maintained its tax exempt status and had taken no uncertain tax positions that require adjustment to the financial statements. Therefore, no provision or liability for income taxes has been included in the financial statements. With few exceptions, the University is no longer subject to income tax examinations by federal or state authorities for fiscal years before 2009 and 2008, respectively. |
