MissionTHE VALENTINO ACHAK DENG FOUNDATION (VAD) IS A US-BASED NONPROFIT ORGANIZATION WORKING TO INCREASE ACCESS TO EDUCATION IN POST-CONFLICT SOUTH SUDAN BY CONSTRUCTING & OPERATING SCHOOLS, LIBRARIES, TEACHER-TRAINING INSTITUTES, AND COMMUNITY CENTERS. THE VAD FOUNDATION'S FIRST MAJOR PROJECT WAS THE CONSTRUCTION OF THE MARIAL BAI SECONDARY SCHOOL, WHICH OPENED IN 2009 WITH A PILOT CLASS OF 85 STUDENTS CHOSEN FROM THOUSANDS OF APPLICANTS ACROSS SOUTH SUDAN.
