Pt I Line 1bDoes the organization follow written policy regarding payment or reimbursement of expenses described in Line 1a? -Yes, such payments and reimbursements are made in accord with the organization's standard written policies which require that expenses have a genuine business purpose and that such expenses have proper authorization, documentation, review and approval.
Pt I Line 5aDid the organization pay or accrue any compensation contingent on the revenues of the organization? - In order to accomplish its mission to improve public health and safety, it is necessary to hire, motivate and retain qualified employees primarily responsible for business development. These positions require extensive travel, knowledge of healthcare issues and Institute capabilities, the ability to effectively communicate with healthcare professionals at all levels, and other critical skills. For these positions, the organization provides a base salary combined with a pay component which is contingent on revenues in order to reward revenue generation for business development while ensuring that a portion of compensation is at risk. In Form 990, Part VII, Section A, there are three (3) employees who received such compensation: Jonathan Trigg, Vice President of Sales; Steve Ferens, Area VP North & East Sales; and David Berkowitz, Director of National Accounts.
Pt II Lines 2-4 Col(B)iiiIn order to attract and retain dedicated, highly talented individuals with clearly demonstrated achievement
Part II,Line 12,Column(B)(iii)For one employee, a small negative amount is shown. This reason for this is formulaic: the Form 990 instructions state that the Column (B)(i) amount is to be the employee's base compensation and that the sum of Columns (B)(i), (B)(ii) and (B)(iii) must equal the amount reported on Form 990, Part VII, Section A, columns (D) and (E); all other payments to the employee are to be shown in Column (B)(iii). The small negative amount reflects the voluntary pay reduction under a Flexible Spending Plan, net of other payments.

Schedule R, Part V, Line 1pReimbursement paid by other organization for expenses: ECRI Institute incurs costs for developing, printing
and distributing publications and other information for the benefit of ECRI Bhd., an affiliate incorporated in
Malaysia. ECRI Institute also incurs costs for technical assistance and administrative support provided to ECRI
Bhd. The fair value of such costs is determined at an arms-length basis, and is reimbursed to ECRI Institute by
ECRI Bhd. In 2013, the payment received by ECRI Institute for such charges was $696,683, approximately 1.3%
of ECRI Institute's total expenses. 100% of this amount ($696,683) is related to the same exempt purpose as
that for the controlling entity, ECRI Institute, and is not unrelated business income. In addition, since the
payment is a reimbursement of actual costs incurred by the controlling entity, ECRI Institute, there is no net
income from this transaction.
