| Description | Prevention & Care -Children's AIDS Program-A pediatric HIV clinic at Heal Africa Hospital in Goma, DRC, providing long term care for HIV affected children and postnatal care for HIV exposed infants. 700 HIV affected children received care. Post exposure Prophylaxis-Post rape medical care including HIV prevention, emergency contraception, sexually transmitted infection treatment, and referral to other needed services for survivors of rape in South Kivu Province, DRC. Real-time supply chain management overcomes barriers to reach survivors within the required 72 hours post violence. 1,542 survivors presented for care in 13 clinics operated by Panzi Hospital. Prevention of Mother to Child Transmission (PMTCT) - Identification of HIV positive pregnant women, initiation of antiretroviral medication to prevent transmission and opportunistic infection prevention provided. Through local partner organizations, care was provided to 70,000 women at 59 clinics in North & South Kivu Provinces, DRC.Malnutrition-Community based screening, medical treatment and nutritional supplements for moderate and severely malnourished children in Goma, DRC. 500 children, in 2 sites, benefited from inpatient and outpatient treatment.Youth Counseling and HIV testing Provide counseling and HIV testing utilizing trained peer educators, teachers and community leaders in Bukavu, DRC. 23,857 individuals reached.Rural Healthcare-Provide counseling and HIV testing, HIV management, PMTCT and family planning in rural Hwange district of Zimbabwe. GS helped to establish and accredit 5 health clinics and provided HIV treatment for 873 individuals. Rehabilitation- Identify, manage, and prevent common musculoskeletal and neurological impairments which, untreated, can have devastating consequences. Through physical therapy and rehabilitation, GS treated 530 children with extensive traumatic injuries and untreated congenital disabilities in Karnataka State, India. | Description |

| Description | Education & Training -Education and training of healthcare providers is a component of every Global Strategies project. While we address urgent healthcare needs, we invest in the long term health of the community through education. Zimbabwe (24 HCW trained), Goma, North Kivu Province (134 HCW trained), Bukavu, South Kivu Province (266 HCW trained), India (355 HCW trained) Scholarships- In order to provide services to meet healthcare needs, the investment in advanced clinical education of local providers will achieve sustainable improvements in the community. A local healthcare providers knowledge of the local health and political landscape coupled with specialized training creates an environment that provides women and children with outstanding medical care. Global Strategies supports a physician from Goma, Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) to receive an advanced degree in pediatrics. Primary efforts include Dr. Ammanns blog entitled Ethics in Health and the publication of Women, HIV, and the Church, a text book, written by Dr. Arthur Ammann, exploring the reasons why churches have not been more involved in the fight against HIV. OTHER PROGRAM SERVICES 5: Education & Training -University of California San Francisco Center for HIV Information- Development and dissemination of HIV prevention- and testing- focused modules to address the evolving needs of health care workers providing antiretroviral therapy in low-resource settings and the shortage of trained doctors and mid-level health care workers with the responsibilities of managing ART, which can be especially difficult in the case of diagnosing and treating. |
